What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Nice RR congress! :cool::cool::thumbsup: Here are a couple of examples of RR stag bone I have; I think they do it much better now than they used to. I much prefer the covers on the cotton sampler to those of your congress or my canoe - YMMV. ;)

Two superb knives, Gary.:):thumbsup::thumbsup:

My good ol 66 this week. Quite honestly, my favorite slippie, maybe ever. When I think of a slip joint pocket knife this is what comes to mind for me. Have a good week!

Jason, I enjoy seeing people willing to claim that a particular knife is their favorite! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I doubt if I could make that decision. :rolleyes:

...
The top one is Grandad’s. The rest I picked up to to sort of complete a series. Great solid knives.
...
Fantastic file of Frontiers! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thrilling Tribal Lock, Dean! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

...
Figured I'd get the patina started.
Looking good, Vince! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Double treat.

Just acquired. GEBR.BERNES.Solingen-Otter. Normally, I would leave the older knives untouched, but I really want to carry this one. It needs blade Spa. Other than that, excellent F&F with plenty of snap, 4 inches closed. I’m not certain, but I think the handles are bone. Then there’s the triple fluted bolster.

Harvey, I used to eat a brownie with a scoop of ice cream each night before bedtime. Those days are long gone now, but your brownie with a jigged bone WCLF on top looks very tasty! :thumbsup::cool::cool: Your vintage Otter is also a real treat; congrats!

I'm always interested in historical parallels between the simply elegant pocketknife and other timely markers. Both this book and the Barlow pattern made quite an impact in their respective worlds; optimal, however not replaceable. :)
...
Beguiling book/barlow combo, JJ! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Morning folks, I took a blind pick in my knife drawers today, and snatched out this late 70's Schrade-Wostenholm Stockman, full story here. Teaming it up with my pocket-hogging Hartshead Barlow :thumbsup:
...
Princely pair, Jack! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Looks like we're in for some wild night. The authorities have issued red alert for high water levels as a result of a combination of unusually high tide and extreme weather. Some streets of the town are expected to be flooded. We evacuated the groud level at work. Just in case.
...
I'd better go with rubber boots and something stainless. But so long I have been really enjoying this little fella.

...
I hope there hasn't been much damage from the storm. Your Case swayback gent is very enjoyable! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Peanut today, it had lost it's emblem, so I whittled/sanded down a piece of walnut to put in it's place to fill the void;

Congrats on your GAW win; that wood shield replacement is a neat idea! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I’m carrying these two today. This 66 has to be one of the nicest finished GEC I own.

Tidioute Tuesday Tote

Thanks, John. :) Was that a 66 variation you posted for Tuesday? :cool::cool::thumbsup:

:D:D Why not, indeed? They ALL deserve constant carry! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Pair of aces, Jeff; the staglon on your Craftsman is sensational!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

More nice staglon on 315 315 's Uncle Henry stockman! ;):cool::cool:

For Jack's Random Tuesday, I'm carrying a Southern & Richardson pearl pen (thanks, Jack!) and an old Camillus Sword Brand jack:
...
Aged and auspicious, Rachel; seeing those makes me feel younger! :cool::cool:;)

Thanks GT, nice lineup you have there!

I am enjoying the forum knife very much, but have to admit I don't know what to do with the edge. Usually I re-profile my carry knives to 30 degrees inclusive right off the bat. It is then easy to maintain that edge on a Sharpmaker, and I like the way that angle cuts for me. I am hesitant, however, to re-grind this edge as the knife is too pretty. All I have done so far is match the factory angle, which is fairly slicey as is.
...
Thanks, Tom. :)
Wonderful wooden pair you've got there! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

It's always nice to see that one on manoeuvres GT ;) :thumbsup:
...
Thanks for the positive Soldier comment, Jack. :) I like the British spelling of "maneuvers" since it starts out quite similar to "canoe". :rolleyes:

Case Chestnut CV bone muskrat (sheesh, I previously said stockman!).

View attachment 1265270
Your photo sent me on an internet search to see if I've missed out on that model for my Case chestnut CV collection! :thumbsup::thumbsup:;) Discontinued and out of stock in LOTS of places, but I finally found one in stock (and on sale). :cool:;)

Classic medium stockman, Lance! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Paul, it pretty much always carries a German made Boker Barlow, or its Russell cousin. I use it for work to keep my pockets a little more organized due to some extra keys.

Another "Fab Four" Gary; I really like the Laguiole addition!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, Harvey & JJ. :) I'm convinced that Laguiole is a Chinese knock-off, but it's a pleasant knife for me! :thumbsup::cool:
JJ, your genuine Laguiole is a lean and lustrous looker! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

That Victorinox/Joker pairing is admirable! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks GT! I've been carrying nothing but this pattern lately(the Otters mostly). I've accumulated quite a few. It's quite addictive. :)
I once had no interest in single bladed knives, but then I won a Case chestnut jigged bone CV Sodbuster Jr in a GAW, and it changed my opinion completely! :rolleyes::thumbsup::thumbsup: Now I'd probably agree with you about the addictiveness of the pattern! :D

My Watch Pocket Knife this week is a Chinese Schrade 44OT Workmate:

Big Knife this week is a 1967 Buck 110 a brother gave me a couple of years ago, after it spent years in his toolbox:

Miscellaneous Knife this week is a naked Imperial jack I call the Silver Bullet (thanks, Dave):

Very fine old Buck Folding Hunter your brother gave you GT. Always extra nice when a classic old knife has a family connection tied to it. OH

Regular Stockman this week is an Uncle Henry stainless 897UH with some miles on it. Nice low-riding sheepsfoot, and almost sunk joints, and although the blades are stainless, the back springs are not:
897uh-keith-lowsheep-jpg.1265768
They are excellent pocket knives. :cool::thumbsup:

How are you enjoying Totin' that beast?

My favorite GEC for when it's time to work. :cool::thumbsup:

I always thought the shiny grey handles and shiny red shield was kind of pretty. :cool::thumbsup:

the pen vs Spey is a combo I like alot:thumbsup:
One of my all-time favorites too. :cool::thumbsup:

Was that a 66 variation you posted for Tuesday? :cool::cool::thumbsup:
Yup. It's my #66 Jack, my favorite #66 variation.
Although I haven't been able to get a hold of a slim version at a good price. I'd like to try one of those some day.

Aged and auspicious, Rachel; seeing those makes me feel younger! :cool::cool:
I do enjoy carrying knives that are older than I. :cool::thumbsup:
How are you enjoying Totin' that beast?
Gettin' used to it. :) Makes me feel prepared for any cutting task, though I haven't had a chance to really use it yet. Might have to have a steak tonight, just for patina purposes. ;)

After about 46 days of consecutive carry I left my bone 861 at home, mostly to give more attention to my stag stockman. Along for the ride today is an old barlow.

View attachment 1265730
46 consecutive days with that big but svelte 861 is impressive! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Going to work with this extremely well made Case Dogleg Jack in one of my pockets.
Is that basically a mini trapper with a pen instead of spey? Cool knife, John! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A pair of Case-Bose collaborations for hump day.

Those are, literally, all great knives, Gary! Of course, the 897UH is one I have a special affinity for. :)
They are excellent pocket knives. :cool::thumbsup:...
Thanks for the kind words, Steve & Jack & Dean & John. :)
Dean, the 897UH I'm carrying this week isn't the one you generously sent me, but here's a photo of the 2 that I unexpectedly got almost simultaneously. (I traded a flea market 34OT for the used Uncle Henry.)

Like I said earlier, very cool RRs; the Buck stag is amazing!!!:cool::thumbsup:

These canoes are splendid, Gary. I personally love the stag's!:):thumbsup:
Lance & Harvey & JJ & José: thanks for the compliments, especially regarding the Buck stag canoe. :) I feel very fortunate to have found that one online one day several years ago (when I didn't even know such a knife existed).

What a handsome sleeveboard 26! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

It's not too late! Had you already named one?
No, I couldn't make up my mind between a couple of knives, and then once New Year's Day arrived, I thought nominations were closed. :(

Wooden Wednesday again.

It's a beautiful day in Mr. Rogers neighborhood, Harvey! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you for your kind words Gary!!! It was all Greek to me though I figured you knew the pubs! :)

You always acquire the coolest RR patterns! I just saw today they released a "Kamp King" after acquiring the 80+ year old Trademark; I need one of those!
...
I appreciate your encouraging comments, JJ. :)
I hadn't heard of the RR "Kamp King" until you mentioned it; I'll have to check it out! ;):thumbsup::cool:

Today's totes are a GEC 44 jack and a Case stockman. :)
Handsome duo, JJ! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: Do you know anything about the origins of the gunstock jack pattern? It seems to be such an unusual handle shape, and I don't think I appreciate whatever functional advantages it's supposed to have. :rolleyes:

Thank you, Gary. Yes this is possible but I'm afraid of damaging the bolster!;):thumbsup:
I understand, José; I'm reluctant to try modifications to my knives. :rolleyes:

Two superb knives, Gary.:):thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks for your support, José. :)

Very fine old Buck Folding Hunter your brother gave you GT. Always extra nice when a classic old knife has a family connection tied to it. OH
Thanks, Bruce. :) I'm glad to have such a classic, especially from a brother, although I'm not personally a fan of the model. :rolleyes:

...
Yup. It's my #66 Jack, my favorite #66 variation.
Although I haven't been able to get a hold of a slim version at a good price. I'd like to try one of those some day.
Thanks for the ID, John. :) The angle of the knife in your photo "hid" any blades other than the half-open main clip, so I wasn't sure. I think a Calf Roper Slim might be my favorite (based on pictures and descriptions, not on any first-hand experience).

Happy Thursday... The week is almost over. :):thumbsup:
I think I'll carry the Red Peanut today. It'll make a good companion to my usual Lambsfoot.
Your trio of Peanuts is a treat, John! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yesterday gave me Northwoods on the mind. Pulled out my favorites for today. Queen made Northwoods Indian River Jack and Sowbelly.
...
oFIii0t.jpg
I'm often quite "unmoved" by Northwoods knives, but that sowbelly is definitely and exception, Mike. That's stupendous!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Today is my anniversary, and I'm feeling nostalgic. Totin' an S&M stockman built the year we got hitched. It has held up better than we have!

Xkhi2lE.jpg
Happy Anniversary, Jeff! :) Nice commemorative knife for the day!

I do enjoy carrying knives that are older than I. :cool::thumbsup:

:):thumbsup:

- GT

Looks like GT got all caught up on the Totin' thread.

Is that basically a mini trapper with a pen instead of spey? Cool knife, John! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
It's designated as a Dogleg Jack.
Yes, it does have the exact same frame as the Mini Trapper.
The pen is obviously different than the spey and the clip point is much broader than on the Mini Trapper.

I think a Calf Roper Slim might be my favorite (based on pictures and descriptions, not on any first-hand experience).
I think I would fall in love with the Slim as well. :cool::thumbsup:

Your trio of Peanuts is a treat, John! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thank you, GT.
The red bone is new to the herd.
