That is one of the cleanest mods to a Becker I've seen. looks like it came from the factory like that. Whoever did that.... Bravo!

On another thread I was wishing for regular production of the BK20 or BK29. Since that might irritate some of those who bought them as limited editions, how about leaving off the relief grind along the spine? Big choppers almost always get batoned a good bit, so a full 1/4" spine might help with that. It would add a touch of forward weight, but I have a BK29 and I don't think a bit more forward weight would hurt it as a chopper. Leaving the spine full width would lower production cost a bit and preserve the exclusivity of the original models.

As long as I am wishing, why not a full spec: Long finger guard like the BK20, length of BK20 or a touch more, "deep" blade like the BK29, long clip like the BK29, but a straight clip like the BK20, 1/4" stock, no relief on the spine, some distal taper, but leave a tip you aren't afraid to baton. Call it the Becker Beast Bowie, because it surely would be.

My understanding is that the relief grind along the spine is to help with batoning. The reduced surface area makes for less friction with going through stuff.

I haven’t yet really batoned my bk20, but it definitely makes the blade lighter, which makes it a lot easier to swing! The design is brilliant!
I would vote for a 2” extension if I could!

I have heard that spine relief/friction reduction theory concerning dynamic chopping/slicing through stuff, especially "softer" targets. But I don't recall ever seeing that concerning batoning. I have heard theories that thicker helps force the split open, sometimes to the point that the material is actually splitting "in front" of the edge. Froes are dull primarily so you can lever and twist the blade without bending or breaking the edge. They are also thick. Yet they seem to baton rather well. It seems there are a lot of variables, and some of the important ones might be the material and the condition of the material you are trying to baton.

Perhaps Ethan did some testing batoning the prototypes. Or perhaps he liked the looks of the relived spine. Or perhaps he did it for weight/balance. I can't say.

BK15 re-issue! Is it too soon?

I gave mine away it’s auch a great knife we need more.

I wish we could be given hints that more designs are coming. I completely understand that the timing of releases can’t be given as to not set false expectations, but just a little teaser now and then would be great.

Frankly, I am not as inspired by other Kabar designers because of my enthusiasm for Beckers. They seem to scratch all my itches. I just wish that I knew something else is in the works. I don’t need pics or timelines, just hints of something else on the way... and if nothing is coming, that’s fine too.

...and to stir another pot of beans, I would really appreciate new knives not being part of a package deal. The affordability of the product is part of the attraction. I was not interested in the other knives that were shipped out with the package deals. So essentially I was paying a custom-knife price for the one Becker I really wanted. I know I could have easily sold the others through the exchange, but I tend gift knives not needed rather then selling them. *stepping off my soapbox...
