It's got to be the Spyderco Sharpmaker for me. I saw pictures of the thing and thought there is no way in hell I'm going to be able to use that contraption. I finally broke down and bought one due to all the info I read here and it turned out to be my best purchase of 2004.

Honorable mention goes to my Superknife.

Rinaldi Disciple. There's something to be said for a really focused, purpose-designed knife, and this one is fantastically well-designed for its intended purpose.

Here's 2 Schrade Tennessee River Trappers, Amber jigged Bone and Rosewood, $17 and $11 respectively.

Busfield Beretta Trailingpoint Folding Hunter with Black Micarta Scales.

In fact all the knives I bought this year were my best purchases, that's what I've told my wife all year, how else could I justify buying it?

I think for 04 I would have to go with my Emerson La Griffe. It was the only knife I bought that I thought really lived up to its hype and truly fulfilled it's designed function.

That's a tough call. I got quite a few REALLY good knives this year.

I'd have to say my PE Chinook II. It's my constant EDC, it's a perfect tool for all my needs, and a great tactical.

Best Bang-For-Buck: Greco Whisper

Most fondled: Camillus OVB's (although they see quite a bit of action too)

Wow...this would be hard to say, 2004 was the year I finally strated buying higher quality knives. Overall I would say it's a tie between my Elk handled Buck 110 and my Benchmade 735 Ares.

Same as RAS-Fehrman Final Judgement. I will admit, though that My two Spyderco SPOT knives come a close second (the vg10 versions).

I purchased three custom bowies in 2004 and all were great in their own way. I think my favorite was a 12", W2 steel, damascus guard and fittings, presentation grade carver stag handled bowie from Ron Newton, but the ones I got from Roger Massey and Gib Guignard/Chuck Burrows are right up there.

2005 is looking good as well. I have a bowie coming from Bailey Bradshaw in early January and a wootz bladed bowie from Tai Goo in February. The knife from Tai is going to have a sheath made by Chuck Burrows.

Its a three way tie for me. The two most used are my Dav Winch "Worker" and my custom CQC10, but I really love my Anderson Damascus Howler.

Two purchases stood out in 04 for me. The two blade Scagel reproduction by Northwoods thanks to Dave Shirley, CW Cable and Queen Cutlery and the 9 piece carving and whittler kit sold by AG Russell and made by Seki. Both of these are top notch knife products.

Hmm... good question.

I've carried and used a Spyderco Scorpius a lot since I got it near the beginning of last year. It's a great all-around knife and an excellent value.

I also bought my first Sebenza: a large, regular, decorated model. I haven't used it much, but it's very nice and definitely worth the money.

Another good purchase was the Benchmade 690 with black Micarta scales. It's incredibly high quality and close to the perfect knife for me.

Unfortunately, last year I also bought a lot of crap. :grumpy: LOL!

I was very fortunate. Two excellent Striders: a Gen 6 SnG, and a Gen 2 SMF. Fantastic knives and they both arrived today!

Several Don Fogg's including a folder (in collaboration with Randall Gilbreath).

This year's gem was my Grohmann #4 survival with custom handle; a great all-around fixed blade, although the sheath system needs work.

Best this year? A plain Reg Sebbie. It was ok then. But then Matt Cucchiara did his Meltdown, Fizz, and color treat on it and it's just utterly amazing now. I bought a lot of other stuff this year but that's the one that stands out as super special. Made more special by a Mike Tea belt sheath which was (edit: IS) understatedly beautiful in it's own right.

Oily
