What was your best purchase for 2004?

My "best Buys of the Year" were the Spyderco Chinook II and the Cuda Maxx 5.5.
Both are top shelf in every way.

I am VERY happy I got them and carry and use them nearly all the time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

If a .....SWAP.....counts, it is my Delica that Sal Glesser courteously exchanged for the Native that was hurting my thumb.
My experience with the Delica has been:

a. What is THAT?
b. It sure looks GOOFY.
c. Who would want one of those?
d. I wonder what they're like.
e. Well, I'll be danged.
f. This sucker is LIGHT
g. And ....THIN
h. And CUTS like crazy with full serrations (which brings us back to "b")
i. It opens so EASY and QUICK
j. How did I get along without THIS thing?

:)

I have 2 , first was my first custom knife, made by Bob Cumming and then one of the last new Umfaans.

Counting trades I'd say it's a toos up between my Fehrman Last Chance prototype, ..wait Happy New Year!!!!! and my Murray Carter Kiridashi.

I got a lot of great deals on knives this year!

Two recent ones would be my Rick Browne Trapper, and a one of a kind Russ Easler fully stippled with jigged Ironwood. Together the knives are easily worth 3 times as much as I paid or more.

Deals are out there, just have to be patient and willing to pull the trigger when they come up.

G'day,
Best purchase this year would be a toss-up between my Dozier straight personal--a great knife, and the DMT sharpener that keeps it so sharp.
Greg

i'd say my Spyderco ATR, which arrived on dec. 31st, a purchase at the very end of 2004 so to speak :)

This year I got my Merc-Worx Atropos.
I also purchased my first, and long awaited Sebenza, Large Classis S30V.
My friend and a great man, bought as a present to me, both sizes of the Benchmade Doug Ritter Griptilions. These will be treasured by me, and my favorites for 2004 for sure, and favorites for many, many years.

This is tough; I got several good blades in '04, including a BM Griptillian, 7 Greco fixed blades, and a Charge XTi, but the best MAY be one of the Swamp Rats I ordered & haven't gotten yet (Battle Rat, Howling Rat, Ratweiler & Rat Trap). Since I ordered them in '04, I guess that counts, even though I don't have them yet. :(

Well, I finally got a Busse Straight Handled steel heart in 5/16" INFI, but there are few occasions that I actually need that blade. I bought Benchmade 520, and traded for a Satin Jack, also by Busse.
I HAVE ALL THE KNIVES I'LL EVER NEED!

Best deal: M43 military khukuri listed as "pickle knife" (or some such) on ePray. I was the only bidder. :D

Best knife: One-of Bark River spear-point bowie. Beautiful!

I got a BM-Emerson 975 SBT, NIB at a great price. One of the best knives I've ever owned and used.

I managed to get a Sebenza. With the exception of sharpening S30V, the knife is as good as just about everyone says.

My best purchase, surprsingly, was a Mini Griptilian with a sheepsfoot, part serrated blade. I've carried it off and on for the last few months. I bought it just to have a small user. But, it surprised me with its ease of use and carry and care. Plus, the serrations add a punch to cutting. It acts like a bigger knife. Because of this blade, I've begun to get and use more serrated blades despite a few years of only using plain edge blades.

I was in the sports authority about 2 weeks ago and they had a mini grip in the display case for about 60 bucks. I had the cash in my pocket and I knew I could get it cheaper but I bought it anyway. Point of the story is when I brought it up to the register it rang up 19.99. I have to say this was my best buy of the year!

don't you just love it when stuff like that happens?! man, things like that always make my day... :)
