What was your best purchase for 2004?

All the Schrade's I was buying off ebay before the meltdown. Many of them have doubled in value, a few have tripled. Thats market value, not what I paid for them, I got some real good deals on some of them. Funny thing is, I wasn't buying on spec, I was building my collection because they were plentiful and inexpensive at the time. Like I say," There's no substitute for dumb a$$ed luck "

A honorable mention has to be made for the Frost's of Sweden Clipper. Has to be the best 10$ knife in the world. Sharp! Sandvik steel and a very secure, comfortable grip. Alot of knives costing 4-5 times as much aren't its equal.

The Benchmade 520 , for uniform carry , the Benchmade 960 for dress .

Would be:
Russell Easler/Ron Gaston collaborative 4-1/4" bladed hunter with maple burl handle.
Angel Sword 30-1/2" bladed Katana with Cocobolo handle and scabbard.

Sorry, no pics, no digital camera at this time. Maybe I can scan the hunter?

I was fortunate enough to have acquired some really good folders in 2004. The best is a small regular Sebenza.

I got my Manix, Dodo, ATC VTAC, and my Spydie Diamond rods.

Well for this year I guess I will have to say my 6 new Randalls of various models. I got both carbon steel and stainless ones.
I will have 1 more coming in 2006 and 2 more in 2008. I sure wish they did not now have a 4yr. waiting list but hope I live long enough to see my 2008 order come in.

Ron
:D

wow! thats a lot of randalls. so which models do you own now, and which ones are you expecting?

My venture into Spydercos - I ended up buying 7 for the year with the pick being the Moran Featherweight original with leather sheath and Moran Edge.

a Sharpmaker for me, and a Sprderfly (I'll normally recieved it tomorrow, but I've bought it in 2004 :D).

Well, in the hopes my wife NEVER sees this post, I would say 2004 was easily my best year for adding to my collection, there were so many amazing knives I was able to get or trade for, but, if I really do some soul searching, I would have to say, the best knife I bought in 2004, is a Don Hanson folder, 3.75" blade of forged W1, amazing, "dripping" double "Hamon", forged Hanson oriented damascus bolsters, the nicest, navy blue fossil walrus ivory I have ever seen, and, the only thing that matches how amazing it is visually and from a technical aspect, is how amazingly smooth, precise, and flawless it is. I thank Don for making this wonderous folder and further, for letting me buy it. :) Don's work is outstanding, if you ever thought of picking up one of his, whether it be a folder, or his equally impressive forged bowies, do it!

the Hanson - whoa!

But I don't have one of those, alas. MY best '04 purchase was actually a gift from my girtlfriend, a BM 806D2. I never got around to buying one myself, but MAN that's a solid and pointy handful!

Hrmm... while looking for other Marttiini knives, I got a used filet knife (the model that is everywhere) for less than $1. Kind of hard to beat a quality knife for under a dollar!

My favorite/best buy was definately a Spyderco Solo. Very, very happy with it. Would be even more so if it had a plain edge. Replaced my every day carry.

Tough call, considering that 2004's purchases included a Timascus TNT from Tom Mayo and a Bill Burke folding pronghorn. Best bang for the buck would go to the Spyderco ParaMilitary. Sentimental favorite: J.B. Moore saddlehorn trapper.

The coolest thing I got in 2004 was the Benchmade 630, and the most useful is a tie between the Benchmade 921 and my Peak flashlight.

DMT clamp system. My right wrist is so flubbed up anymore that I can't keep consistent angles anymore on a benchstone. Would like to up grade to a Lansky though.

CUDA Dominator Tanto combo edge for $160 or Kabar D2 Extreme USMC Fighting Knife with Eagle sheath for $110

Best knife bought in 2004: Spyderco micarta Calypso PE. Love it!

Best value knife bought in 2004: Boker 3-blade Stockman, for $25.
