What was your first car?

1947 Pontiac fast back coupe, in which I installed a 1957, 347 CI Pontiac V-8, way back in 1960. :D

1960 Austin A40 Salon, painted florescent orange, with "Tijuana Taxi" written in Japanese on the side (dad's idea...I have no clue).

Only had a drivers seat, and the rear bench seat. Passenger sat in the floor.
4-speed, dad had an 8-ball drilled and tapped for the shift handle. Pretty cool.

We went all over in that lil pup. Fluggin A-frame broke, and I didn't have the $$ to fix, so bought a '66 Tempest.

1979 Ford Mustang Hatchback. Blue. V6. Automatic. Bought for the large sum of $300. Wrecked it within a year in the worst accident I've ever had when it died on me while turning left onto a somewhat busy road and a girl plowed right into my driver's side door at about 55mph.

Wish I had pictures of it.

After my mom stopped driving I inherited the family '56 Chevy Del Rey. It was a great car. After a couple years a woman slid through a red light and smashed the front end. At that point I got a couple year old '66 mustang. I got it with 20,000 miles on it and put on another 125,000. I sold it to a Ford mechanic who rebuilt it. In 1995 I was driving through my old home town and spotted it at a traffic light. It wasn't looking all that great, but it was close to 30 years old at that point.

Hehe- 1953 VW bug, jointly puchased by me and one of my army buds in Germany for 50.00. Wonderful car...No starter (one to push, or park on a hill...), mechanical brakes (cables!), no gas guage (but a '"reserve" tank like a motorcycle), taillights the size of 50-cent pieces and turn signals that flopped out of the window posts on little arms. Got us around, though.

I bought a much newer bug when I got out of the army in 67....A 1966.
Great minds buy alike! :)

My first was a 54 bug, the next was a 62 then a 71. Great cars, all of them.
I also had a wildly modified bug originally based on a 62 model which I used to drive in club rallys. I could spend a bit of time telling stories about that part of my life!

Nothing in the 90's or beyond yet?

You guys are all a buncha old timers! :p

My first and current is a VW '01 Golf.

In total, I owned five bugs. In addition to our army wheels, I had a 66, a brand-new 68, a 73 super, and a 74 convertible. The convertible had an 8-track, probably one of the last. It also had that POS half-electric and half mechanical fuel injection, and it rarely ran properly.

I got a copy of "How To Keep Your Bug Alive"...Great book!

Not my first, but my favorite was a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 that I bought for $200 sometime in the mid-1980s. It was enormous.
My best friend in high school had a beat up old Galaxie, that thing had some power. We used to pack a bag of unpopped popcorn and a couple of straws in the center console. At stoplights, we'd wait until the light was just turning green, then shoot corn at some poor slob's head in the next car, stomp on the gas and haul a$$. :D

My own first car was a well-preserved 1976 Chrysler Cordoba, complete with the rrrrrrich Corrrrrinthian Leatherrrr.

The first car was a 1980 Chevy Monza, which was given to me so that I could get back and forth to college. It was new and I was so proud of it. The Monza had an automatic transmission and a 4-cylinder engine. That was fine until I transferred to Western Carolina University which is in the mountains of North Carolina. The sound of that little 4-banger pushing that car over those mountains was something to hear. The engine had this almost squeal like quality as I took the Monza up the steeper grades. Most times I would be lucky if that thing was still doing 45 mph when I reached the top. I'm still shocked that it didn't blow up. The car pictured below is not my Monza but it's a near dead ringer for it.

My first car was a 1973 Olympic Blue VW Karmann Ghia. It was also the car I learned how to drive stick shift on. Much of the body was hand-built, and the engine ran like swiss watch. I wish I had that car now.

Interesting. I'm in graduate school at WCU, and got my undergrad degree there in 2003.

Since I'm only 23, I'm still on the first car, and I still love it. A 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX (which has NO problem with the hills around these parts) with the big 4.6l v8. I just rolled over 95,000 miles last week.

My 1st car was a 71 dodge demon w/340 4 barrell, sure grip rear end (posi), lemon twist yellow w/blackout hood. Had it 3 months before my mother made me trade it for a 74 VW super bettle because she said it sounded to fast. It really was a fast car, one weekend I was running with the big dogs and the next cruising in a VW.
