What was your first car?

my very first vehicle was a '50 ford 1/2 ton w/a '59 model OHV engine that i drove on our families ranch when growing up, due to not having a title for 1 reason/another i didnt drive it on the street though, only off road, never got stuck in it either lol.

my first real car was a '72 nova SS 350 i got in 11th grade which ended up having a HTC crank stroked 383/edelbrock torker manifold/holley 750 CFM double pumper/hooker headers/2.02 heads that were ported&polished/TRW pistons rings and valves, engle solid lifter cam and springs, accel ignition, B&M tranny and converter, 4.10 rear gears in a posi carrier, etc/etc, best time was 13.10 or so, needed some short slicks vs the very very tall ones i had. it was a lotta car for an 16 yr old lol, maybe 18 when completed.

wish i still had the nova.

Nothing in the 90's or beyond yet?

You guys are all a buncha old timers!

Nah, it's you who is young ... junior :D :p

As fate had it, i'm vision impaired so I never could get a license legit. I think it's for the best anyway, couldn't live with myself if I ever hit somebody while driving. Drove a couple of cars in my life without blowing anything up, crashing or killing anybody though. None were really mine :(

My first and current is a VW '01 Golf.

Yep, got to admit I'm a bit passed the half centruy mark. I dont' think the older cars can stack up to the newer cars other than on the nostolgia scale; but I do remember paying as little as 18 cents a gallon for gas when I was in high school.

!957 Ford Fairlane 500 2 Dr. Hdtp.,bought in 1964 for $750...(not this
car but same colors...Light Blue and White w/Gold spear trim on side)
Car looked like new when I bought it.....this car is currently for sale at
$14,500:barf:

I'm not sure it was my first but the first one I remember was a '72 Plymouth Fury II. What a tank! I used to crash through snowbanks and drive offroad through the woods, mowing down small saplings. There wasn't a square foot of that heavy guage steel body that wasn't dented. It finally burned up - catching fire as I was driving it. I drove it as far as it would go and then abandoned it.

Bought it in 1976.

289 V8, 4 on the floor

Didn't exactly 'hug the ground' on turns.

not what you'd call a cool car but I surprised a few kids in the lowered Honda crowd when I opened up the 302.

1973 Dodge Coronet 440. Big-assed 4-door party barge. Seated 7 or 8 with no problem. Paid about $500.00 for it in '81. Got hit by a drunk driver & the insurance company "totalled" it out on me & cut me a check- drove it wrecked for 3 months until I bought a '74 Matador- a worthless waste of raw materials.

'69 VW with 1000 dollars of custom fenders. I bought it from a guy that used to race it. It came with a blown engine. Dropped in the 74 engine from by brothers car with wrecked front end and drive it like there was no tomorrow. 16 inch mag wheels, straight pipes, t-shifter, frenched in headlights and tail lights, and 2/60 AC, 3/60 if the sun roof was open :D

I graduated high school in 1967. My father, who was pretty well off, bought me a new, 1967 Porsche 911-S as a graduation present. This model had 6 Weber stacks, not fuel injection, which were a bear to keep "balanced". But when they were, it hauled @$$.

I drove that car through college, and through law school, and for a year after I graduated from law school. I should have kept it. But at the time, I thought trading it in for twice what Dad had paid for it eight years earlier was a good deal. A great car. But I was a kid, didn't know any better, and at the time really didn't appreciate it for what it was. I thought of it as an eight year old car, and wanted something new. Damn, that was stupid.

Just to annoy you even more, if you still had that car and brought it to Oz today you could sell it for around $30,000. That's about $23,000 in your money! :)

My first car was a 1969 Buick skylark. The driver door never stayed closed so I had to use a rope and tie the door shut!!

The car lasted a year and then blew up! My next car was a 1972 powder puff blue Ford Gran Torino. My Grandmother's new husband [her fifth] bought it new and died a week later. Grandma hated the car so she gave it to her number one 17-year old grandson [me]. The car had 187 miles on it.

I drove that car for almost 200,000 miles and if the back seat could talk:eek:

What a ride:D

several of my friends had cars which were just "old cars" which are worth a lot of $$ today, ie '70 SS chevelle 454/460HP LS6 engine ($2200 then, $100,000 or so now) "70 BOSS 302 mustang w/the shaker scoop, slats, spoilers ($2500 then $50,000 now) '70 cuda AAR 340 6 pack (he sold it for $1800, worth $75,000 or so now) '69 Z/28 camaro ($2000 then $50,000+ now) and the best example a shelby cobra 289 that was for sale for $8000 then, a lotta money in the '70s, but worth $250,000 or so now.......the big block 427 versions are close to a million dollars........

Had two "first cars" when I was 16. First was a 1977 Ford LTD 2-door with 177k on it when I got it, a gift from my Uncle. Heater\air didnt work and got about 8 miles to the gallon I think, and froze bad on the inside in the winter. About a week after that I was given a 1978 Trans Am from my grandfather, mint condition, 24760 on the clock when I got it. I sold the 77 Ford after the first winter of being frozen inside, etc. I still have the Trans Am and love it more every day.

1967 Pontiac Catalina.

My first car too! 400 c.i. V-8 producing about 350hp really moved that big behemoth! Could fit 8 people in relative comfort, and had a kickin-est stereo I could afford. Actually paid more for the stereo and speakers than I did for the car. I had it until my Sr. year of undergrad, my parents made me sell it for some piece o' crap Buick. Man, I miss that car! :(

'64 Chevy Impala 2-door, tan with white vinyl top, white interior. V8, 4 barrel carb. Paid $300. for it. Talk about fly. Lots of room in the back seat (hee hee).
