Find a local COMPETENT watchmaker. If not local, one you can send the watch to. Don't use manufacturer's service centers. Try never to use a jewelry store as many simply farm the work out and charge you double (seriously). I get time only mechanical watches serviced for less than $100 by a watchmaker about an hour from here who was trained in the old Bulova School.That's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on a high end watch. I can run my Seiko dive watch for 15 - 20 years till it stops and then buy another one for less than the cost of a Rolex service. If I get a high end watch, I'll be spending probably around $300 every 5 years. Not exactly cheap.
