What wild animals concern, worry, or even scare you ?

Heard a barking puppy (or so I thought) late last night from downstairs at work.

Found a sick looking coon and called out animal control. Second report he had that day of DISTEMPER! No cure for distemper and its viral...

I can deal with anything other than carriers of Lord nows what.

I have yet to see a tiger shark while I was spear fishing but I definitely fear those. Other than that there are not any big predators in Hawaii that will kill you. And there are not any poisonous animals either, well until you get into the ocean but still not a huge problem.

Fear? No. Respect? Yes......there are many things that can hurt you but the ones I can't stand are fire ants and cockroaches. I was on a small island in the Florida Keys and it was crawling at night with cockroaches and sand fleas.....I made a hammock out of desperation.....

But these buggas fly!

Animals that 'concern' me? Any that have teeth, horns/antlers or could stomp the daylights outta me.

All animals can hurt someone if they're cornered, scared or in defense-mode. I maintain a certain level of awareness, but i'm not shakin' in my shoes with that group.

I'm really, really cautious about spiders, ticks, leaches and scavenger mammals (racoons, skunks, opossums, etc). I hate flying insects. Exception(s), butterflys and indigenous North American honeybees (not the aggressive 'killer-bees' - they're on the hate list).

The animals which i have more than a 'concern' for - an honest healthy fear of - big cats, bears, feral dogs, wolves and snakes. These are predators with strong, sharp teeth and/or claws who *know* how to use them and i have a healthy fear of these guys. I didn't mention 'gator's, croc's, sharks (i'm irrationally terrified of sharks) and other more sea-borne predators b/c i'm rarely in those environments.

Man eating carnivors are certainly a concern/problem, but what about mice? Mice can move in and do alot of damage in short order. They move in take over and do allot of damage, stink up the place and chew everything to bits and spread disease. Every summer and fall they come crawling and chewing through the walls and one has to keep up steady baiting and replacing traps. Having served on our vollunteer fire department we have gone to several fires that were started by mice chewing through wiring.

I have a real problem with brown recluse spiders. I own an old one room schoolhouse out in the country that gets a good cleaning 2 or 3 times a year and I always find a bunch out there along with finding them in my house in town. I have a good friend who just about lost his hand from a brown recluse bite and know a number of other people who have been bitten and taken months to heal up usually with very bad scarring.

We have copperheads here in central Kentucky, but honestly my biggest worry is poison ivy. I'm deathly allergic to the stuff, and after having had it on my face, my ankles, the back AND palms of my hands (and between my fingers) I get pretty paranoid. I've alway known what to look for and avoid, but still manage to end up with a pretty bad case each year. It's worth it for the enjoyment of being outdoors, but it puts a damper on your life for a few days, that's for sure.

I just recently started working in a jungle environment down in the south of Mexico. A lot of venomous snakes down here. But the leeches are a new thing for me, they are every were.
