I'm going to say that urban/wilderness extreme means something that can take off a 2" limb (tree not human) without thining, break a car window, make fuzz sticks, pry open a jammed front door to a house, pry open a can of tuna, slice bologna, and smash/cut a watermelon in half with one swing. Would also prefer that it operates on two D batteries. Am I asking to much?

You forgot slicing bread and opening beer...

I want to be a tester! Along with the beer that Mist mentioned!:D

That said, I voted for the Bird and Trout...figured something different.

Although I am the owner of a new sgian dubh that I love...be interesting seeing folks take on that knife design.

Should I put brief descriptions in the OP?

Wilderness/Urban Extreme - Think of the worst case scenario knife/tool uses. It may start with fuzzsticks and opening beer bottles but will eventually lead to cutting 8" logs and hacking through a brick walls(throw in digging and punching through sheet metal for good measure).... these knives would go from delicate to downright abusive use. There will be damage and possible catastrophic failure.... though, perhaps a little more creative than other extreme tests we've seen to date. We would of course have to set size parameters and define "tool" (blades, hawks, hammers, axes, etc...)

I would love to be a tester on this one as I have many ideas for the challenge BUT...... there is no way that I am not entering a knife into this category, should it be chosen as the next challenge. Hell, I'd consider resigning as a mod if being one meant that I couldn't enter.

Sounds great to me, I'm picturing big bad Buck Hoodlum/ TOPS Armageddon type blades !!!

200th Anniversary of the War of 1812. Being my mothers' side of my family were involved in some of the skirmishes, I've really taken an interest and am reading quite a bit.Being a knife nut it is obvious what details I look for:p What I would suggest is a knife that could have or would have been carried by the folks back then. I know there would be the butcher knife or Hudson bay style or trade knife types, but what else would a pioneer have liked to carry, if they could (Bowie?Hunter). As long as it was somewhat period correct. No G10, no kydex,no stainless
Enough of my ramble:D

I put in a vote for an EDC challenge.
I missed out on the last challenge but I would love to let you guys beat the crap out of my EDC. The best part is there's no need to make a special knife for the challenge, just ship the one on my belt :D It won't win any beauty contests, but at least I know it works good.

I personally would like to be part of a bushcrafter or camp knife challenge since I missed those, but I don't want to see us repeating the past challenges so soon. I put my vote down for the Urban/Extreme Survival. This could be a really interesting design challenge. It would be lots of fun to make a knife for this challenge.

I would have voted for CHOPPER 8 - 10" if it was a choice. (Voted for wilderness/urban extreme)

My vote is still for a hunting knife challenge. From field to plate. General hunting not just bird and trout. That's too close to the necker challenge IMO. The knife should be able to skin and flesh out a dear and then prep it and veggies for dinner.

I think you just made my heart skip a beat!

I suggest that the group develops several extremely specific tests / tasks to be validated by the Mods.

Then we provide that list to the Knifemakers and they can come up with whatever they need to come up with to complete the tests / tasks.

This would be more fun / creative IMHO and let us see how the Knifemaker thinks based upon tests / tasks and not based upon knife title such as "camp" or "necker" or "bushcraft" etc. It would be even cooler if we had tests / tasks that crossed knife boundaries such as a few from the camp category with a few from the bushcraft category -- you get my drift.
