A friend asked me for some knife recommendations, and I've got a decent list going. He's looking for around a $100 knife, for his son who is a Marine overseas in Germany right now. He's got several Benchmades, and isn't afraid to use them.

Here are a few of the knives I'm compiling (most are around $130):

Lone Wolf T1 Tactical ($89): http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=LWLC17405
Lone Wolf T2 Tactical ($135): http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=LWLC14600
Benchmade Mini-Skirmish ($152): http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM635P
Tops CQT Gent-X ($130): http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=57
Zero Tolerance 0200 ($130): http://www.knifedealsplus.com/zt/ZT-0200.html

If you had ZERO knives, what would you pickup for a folder for around $100, that you would feel worthy to be an tough EDC, wilderness, military use knife?

L!

+$100 to the first person to recommend 10 moras. :D

Ten moras! I win!

Actually, though, I think a Spyderco Military would be a nice knife. I prefer the Manix, but it's not in production any longer and tough to come by as far as I know.

Benchmade Ritter Grip
Spyderco ParaMilitary
Al Mar SERE or Mini SERE

+3 on the Griptilian. As a bonus it comes in under budget.

Hey rocketbomb, I just bought a new Manix a month or two ago and I would have to agree with you - this thing is a tank. I (or rather my plastic) spent way more than I should have on it, but it'll be around long after the credit card pain.

FWIW, I would never buy another Benchmade product, ever!

Doc

I'm going to go with a spyderco military or para miltary..for some one who is.... in the military...I don't dig the feel of the spydercos personally I just did a few months edcing them and they just don't fit me...if I had $100.00 to drop on a folder I'd get a custom shoppe Buck 110 with elk antler scales s30-v blade and nickel bolster..Hmm seems like I might have given that a little too much thought...

Doc, I actually own the Mini-Manix. Depending on personal preferences, either is an awesome knife. I actually EDC the mini. Great knife, one of the sharpest I own, and very comfortable in hand.

Buck 110.

There are others too, Benchmade and Lone Wolf come to mind, but when ever I use the Buck 110 a smile comes to my face. Buck 110, maybe with some fancy steel like RescueRiley said.

I'd go with the Harsey t2. I have a T3 and it is a great knife. If he had the extra dough that is what I'd recommend. Built like a tank and nothin nto go wrong.

ZT0200. Unconditional warranty, USA made, and one hell of a tough knife. Plus a portion of all ZT sales goes to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Heritage Fund.
