This, or one of the variations, would be high on my list. You've got a relativley small package with maximum blade length, the strength of the Axis lock, true ambi-use/carry and it's within the price range. My favourite of the variations is actually the Blackwater gear 16707. I got mine for around $76 from New Graham. Awesome little knife. The spine also happens to be the best fire striker of all the knives I own.
The only thing I wish it had was a lanyard hole.
Just looked up that 16707, that is an awsome buy. The PE 707 is one of my favorite EDCs, but I always wished it had full G10 scales, not just the inserts. The aluminum on mine has gotten pretty dinged up. They pack a lot of blade into that small package. The 16707 is about twenty bucks cheaper, and has the same steel. I need another 3" folder like I need another hole in my head, otherwise I'd be all over this one. I've got both the Military and the Ritter grip, and for the same money, the Military outclasses the Ritter, IMO. But for the OP's purpose I'd vote for the Charge TTi also, I think he would find more use for it.
