What would be YOUR trench knife?

me and a buddy of mine were recently discussing WW1 weapons. and how what we consider unconventional now (tomahawks, the mace, 3 edge knife, etc) was the norm in those days. because often when your in a trench theres no time, nor space, to use a firearm. so they were many times impractical for the situation. so the question would be, if you could bring any knife/weapon into a trench with you that can NOT be a gun, what would it be? i would go with eather the emerson CQC-T. and the cold steel OSS sub hilt fighter.

Wow, this is a question for which responding "Smatchet" is not a smart-ass response.

Smatchet.

That would have to be the Busse Argonne assault if we are able to pic something from todays timeline. They made a shorter all black version of it, One of the nastiest knives I have ever seen. knuckles and Infi. I think they are coming out with a newer version here soon.

Seems like if you got room and time for a hawk, you'd have room and time for a handgun.

But if it's "no guns", I'll go with the old Randall Model 1.

i totally disagree that somehow a knife would be somehow easier to deploy compared to a firearm in any circumstance. but if you find yourself in a trench with a surprise bad guy a long bladed knife would be imo preferable to the hatchet. the simplest move in defense is to push away. and if your moving like that naturally anyway having the point of a long blade makes more sense to push with than a hatchet.

I like the CS OSS sub hilt fighter or the Hawk - both are formidable weapons. I choose BOTH! :D

My Oberst sword/machete. :)

I'd prefer to have a Cold Steel Tai Pan (San Mai) in my jab-hand and a Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri in my power-hand, if I can choose two. If I can only pick one item, then it's definitely a convex-sharpened folding shovel, like the Fiskars or Gerber one.

also do remember, your only going to have a certain amount of ammunition with you in a trench. and if you did manage to reach the trench, 90% of the time you would have to use stealth over power. last i checked firearms are very loud  . in a trench warfare scenario, there are multiple advantages to useing a melee weapon instead of a gun.

not sure what I would pick as something to respond to a surprise attack while fatigued mentally and physically, but I bet my buddies to my left and my right in a narrow corridor of mud strewn with all sorts of crap would appreciate it not being a firearm.

Probably a Cold Steel Peacekeeper because it's wide and you can slash with it, and you don't have to spend time getting your fingers into a hand or finger-guard. It probably doesn't stab as well as those classic, needley trench knives, but it seems like under stress it would be easier to slash than to land a good stab. It's nice to have the option anyway.

Good point.

Those are badass. Too bad they're out of my price range. $600 is actually a steal for what you're getting, though.
