What would have been Jack Reacher's ideal EDC?

Ben Affleck as batman.

:D I dunno. That pales in comparison to casting a welterweight in a heavyweight role.

I was reflecting about it.
In the REAL WORLD probably Jack Reacher (besides the folding toothbrush, ATM card and Expired Passport) would carry some inexpensive and little folding knife or MT - $30 max - (examples: Kabar Dozier, Rat 2, Vic Tinker, Spartan or Hiker), a mini Bic lighter and a very "easy to find batteries", inexpensive and concealable flashlight (Streamlight Microstream, Protac 2AAA or Stylus Pro) and that´s it.
You just described what I carry a EDC I'm a former survival instructor..

At least resurrect it with a “TTT”. Anyways the real question should be what would Jack the Ripper EDC? I’m gonna say a 0462

I've mentioned in previous threads, I've read all of the books and Mr. Reacher generally has a great disdain for knives, especially fighting. Personally, I'd rather have one and not need it than the reverse. However, based on the character, he wouldn't carry a knife.

I realize this could be because the author is British and many of their countryman disdain knives since like guns they are illegal in much of the country.

They apparently overcome any distain when it comes time to murder someone .

Kitchen knives are the first choice for murder weapons for Brits , IIRC .

Bloody spot of bother , not being permitted a PROPER gentleman's weapon . ;)

I haven't read the books (I'd like to), nor seen the new series, just the Tom Cruise movies. Is it ever actually explained in the books why he shuns knives? Bad experience as a child? He thinks they're unsportsmanlike? Or do we just chalk it up to the fact that the books are written by a Brit?

I don't think he particularly shuns them if I remember correctly. At one point he uses a folder with a ceramic blade and another a Benchmade OTF.

One of his buddies carries a carbon fiber switchblade that supposedly can get through airport security (CF blade) but I remember at least one book where he talks about knives being ineffective and altogether too messy to kill with. Its more that he disdains them as killing tools than for their practical purposes. In that he's a wandering vagabond, I would think an SAK at the least would make sense.

I read a lot, and just started reading the Jack Reacher novels in August 2020, but have finished them all. I read 44 e-books in 2021 and 3 regular books. Thus far this year 8 e-books and 1 textbook. Its insane, but I can remember in pretty good detail nearly every work of fiction I've read since middle school. This is part of the reason why I have issues with movies/shows based on books, if I've read the book.

In the new Amazon series, it looks like he pulls out a Benchmade Griptillian in (I think) episode 2.
