What would have been Jack Reacher's ideal EDC?

Making a reflection about Jack Reacher EDC IN A REAL WORLD.
With the new series premiered I was thinking about it again. And my conclusion that is very very unlikely to travel only with cash, ATM card, expired passport and a toothbrush.
Should be considered first of all hygiene and health questions.

Thinking about it I choose a very light pack (15-20L) with:

1)Clothes (not winter or cold autumn):
a) 2 pieces of underwear;
b) 2 pairs of socks;
c) 1 extra shirt OR t-shirt;
d) 1 shorts;(optional)

2) Hygiene and Medics:
a) Toothbrush (mentioned in the beginning);
b) Dental Floss;
c) Toothpaste;
d) 2-3 bars of little Hotel/Motel soap;
e) Eye Drops; (optional)
f) Ibuprofen; (optional)
g) Some kind of anti alergic tablets;(optional)
h) 5oz Philips Milk of Magnesia (could be used for deodorant AND digestion problems)

3) Other stuff:
a) Handkerchief or bandana;
b) Cheap wristwatch; (optional)
c) Some kind of AAA pen light (Pelican or Streamlight - optional);
d) a mini Bic lighter
e) A SAK - Super Tinker or something smaller like a Small Tinker - but I think the scissors are necessary for hygiene stuff too like trimming your nails;

What do you think?
 
I'd say a knife hand to the throat. Others are correct that the author is a Brit who 1) is not used to a gun or knife culture like the US 2) The author said in an interview that he wanted a character so big and strong that he could walk around and not be afraid, so I think the idea was that reacher could use his hands to solve most issues.

I think not.
 
I understand the philosophical nature of the discussion, but Reacher is a hand to hand combat specialist and runs into the police quite often from what I've read. What $ he spent on a knife/tool, he would loose it to the police quite a bit I'd think. He also doesn't put much stock in material items.

But if he did, he is a pawn/thrift shop Kabar kind of guy I would think.

This. I like the Reacher novels (well, most of them, the ones written in first person I don't care for), but they're pure entertainment.

I think you thought about this A LOT. The reacher books just aren't realistic, definitely some dude's male fantasy.
 
Given the character of reacher I'd think he would just carry a pen and be able to inflict plenty of damage with just that. He might use a rolled up newspaper as well. Mostly he improvises with what is available.
