Well, I jumped into my first traditional in a big way. I'd actually been eyeing a few GEC and Northwoods knives for the past few months, but other items got in the way and/or I missed out on the limited run knives I'd wanted. I had actually been planning on purchasing a BM 477 with the blue aluminum but after handling a "standard" black 477 at a local dealer, I found I didn't like it nearly as much as my 943, so decided to pass. That got me thinking of traditionals again, since most of my knives are modern folders, and I really wanted something useful, but less "tactical" and more refined. So, a larger traditional.

What did I happen upon but the Madison two-blade Barlow in blue camel bone? I love the shape of these knives, the plain blades, the shield on the bolster, it's just a perfect aesthetic, I think. The only problem was deciding on whether the greenish-grayish blue, or the bright blue was more appealing, and trying to find the most appealing handles. I compromised and got one with the bright blue and a good deal of white/light blue on the handle scales: # 86. I'll try to post the KSF pic this evening.

I'm not a big fan of the sunfish or Elephant toenail but I've always loved the big old Platts swell center toenails. This one is one the way.
It's Bigger than the Platts, able to process firewood:D

Best regards

Robin

Hal, is this your first Diamond Jack? Do you have other GEC 48s?

What I love about that knife: it is a long, hefty blade. But it disappears in your pocket. The jigging feels great and is a pleasure to hold and use. The nail nick is perfectly positioned on the end of the clip blade. Even if it is a little tight, it opens easily. And it looks great!

Just put some Balbach damascus and nice 3400 year old bog oak in the post to my friend Enrique Pena, should make for a nice 3 5/8 trapper.

I got hooked on GEC thanks to this site. I have 2 in hand and 5 more on order. On order are: Tidioute #15 Antique Yellow Bone Farm Boy, Tidioute #92 Spearpoint Talon Goldenrod bone, Tidioute #66 Calf Roper Jack Purple Sage Bone, Tidioute #15 Boys Knife Clip Jack Rust Red Bone, and finally a 2007 (new) Tidioute #73 Trapper River Valley Green Jigged Bone. I find the waiting for these to show up in the next few days very hard to do.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Northwoods Indian River Jack with blue camel bone covers today but the specific one I wanted was taken right before I put it into my cart. Better luck smiled on me this evening and I scored a 2013 Bladeforums Congress Jack from member TLARbb on the Traditionals sales forum instead!

Enrique builds a very fine knife. I'm sure we'll see some photos in the future :)

I will definitely show pics:thumbup:, I have been friends with Enrique for a few years now and we have been talking about building me a knife for some time, now it has finally came together. Enrique is without a doubt one of the finest slip joint makers alive today.

I had never heard of him until now Kris. I googled him and his knives look awesome!

Can't wait to see the knife he makes for you.
