Whatcha got on order? (Traditional Knives Only)

I'll give you a hint. What could go wrong? It's supposed to be here tomorrow.

Ancient grail.

I ordered a couple things I’ve been meaning to buy for a while. Ontario old hickory 7026 hunter model with the sheath and a pair of mora 511’s with green handles (they were an enticing deal as a pair).

After looking for quite some time, I finally found a reasonably priced Buck 302 today so ordered it to go along with a 112 I ordered on Friday. I also ordered a more modern-ish Buck (engraved) for my son to celebrate his graduation in May. After these, I'm done as a buyer until GEC gets rolling again and my reserved Mesquite 23 is ready.

After staring at C CHNeal 's early Buck/Camillus 301 nostalgia hit me hard. When I was six or seven, my cousin had a Buck 301 that I was very envious of. He let me use it one day while camping and I promptly cut the pad of my finger off trying to close it. If I remember correctly, I think my aunt made my cousin go pick the switch she used to give him a swatting that day, lol. Different times.

Anyways, I started searching and ended up finding a 1984 or 1985 Buck 301. I was born in 1984, so I'm just gonna choose to believe that this knife was definitely made in '84, lol (although by the "BUCK" shield, I suspect it was made in '85 when Buck took over manufacturing from Camillus).

Maybe someone here has better info?

One of these days you will have to show a picture of your collection, it sounds be be wonderfully diverse! As far as your new 301, the picture isn’t real clear but there appears to be an absence of a date stamp after the model # and it has a Buck shield so it can only be late ‘85.
That was from the first run of in house 300 series knives Buck did. The next year they started with the date stamps we see today. Those “ Buck” shields only lasted thru ‘88 when they returned to the traditional shields.
Enjoy that great knife and memory my friend

You know, I might just have to do that sometime soon. I don't think I've had the "family" out for a group photo since I first started hanging out on this forum a couple years ago. :D

Thanks for the info! After reading up more here on the forums it sounds like it would be nearly impossible to date one to exactly 1984. So I’m gonna call ‘85 good enough, lol. The double brass liner on one side is interesting... never seen that before.

That Case/Tony Bose you have on the way looks beautful! Great looking ebony!

It's been a while with the isolation and all. Anyway, I thought I could give the Antonini knives a chance. I have carried my olive handle Opinel 8 lately when going for a walk in the forest (thank god we can still do that to keep sane) but the new style lock in Opi has killed some of my interest. I just don't like it as much as the old one. Anyway I ordered two Antonini Old Bears, XL (100 mm blade) and medium (80 mm), both with carbon steel and walnut handle. I think I will like the medium more, since nr 8 is my favourite size in Opinels.

That definitely looks like a Buck blade, they had their own style with the slipjoint blades while the camillus examples all had standard fair if I'm not mistaken.

Today I scored this NOS '03 Buck 305 lancer off the bay for a great price.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think the swedge on the camillus source 305 is a bit ugly.
The 305 Is probably the one Buck made slipjoint that looks better than the camillus sourced versions.

Yea, after reading up some more, it sounds like it is definitely a Buck made 1985. It has no scale rivets, BUCK 301 USA on the front tang and nothing on the reverse. A double brass liner on one side. There is no date code stamp and the escutcheon plate reads BUCK. This post from 300Bucks makes me wonder about the rarity of the knife.

...
Buck builds a slipjoint production line and begins to issue there own made models late in 1985... Buck began by marking their knives with a date code stamp following the model number on the tang. They issued their new knives with improved 425m steel. A new excutcheon plate replaced the traditional knife, bolt and hammer. The new plate simply said BUCK in capital letters. A few knives were produced in late 1985 and did not receive date code stamps, but these are rare.

On that same note... I talked to my cousin yesterday and he told me it wasn't a Buck 301 that I cut myself with but an Old Timer 340t and that he still has it, lol. On the plus side... I now have a 1984 340t on the way.
