Whatchalisteninto?

I didn't figure there'd be many hip hop heads in here. Good to see at least one...though I'm sure there will be some frowns from people reading this thread. ;)

Nothing wrong with a little diversity. Although hip hop isn't my main thing, it certainly has a little rotation in my noisebox.
As far as making people squirm, not much is more in your face than Hank III/Assjack or the XXX David Alan Coe.

My musical tastes reflect my age:

On the way to work this morning I will be listening to Santana and Steely Dan. Last night it was Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen.... :)

My listening changes all the time but for the past couple of days i've been listening to Shinedown: Leave a Whisper CD and Metallica: Death Magnetic CD - Also some Megadeth: Peace Sells Who's Buying. :D

Last 5, some old, some obscure

Garland Jeffreys & Grinders Switch
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers
Santana - Moonflower
Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys

hmmmm, i've never heard of ANY of this stuff you guys are listening to (except for Jim Croce ).

Are you guys making this stuff up :D

Actuall, seems like we're getting a little better on page 2, lol. Hammy and Tiburon, I like your choices...

speaking of obscure - dame darcy's mercury wine is one of the best modern recordings of Appalachian folk I've heard in a long time. I would love to see her do an entire album of old songs.

I just realized I'm NOT listening to music much since Bella's birth. Here, however, are some perennials:

Best of Andre 3000 mixtape
D'Angelo: Voodoo
Jill Scott: Beautifully Human
Nas: Illmatic
De La Soul: Stake is High
Miles Davis: Kind of Blue

There are thousands more, but these are ALWAYS in rotation.

You have superior taste. Especially Miles Davis.

But I'm on a Cash run right now. Until I feel better.:o

Old Stones and new Dylan are what I listen to when I work out. Sadly thats the only time I listen

Got the Nano crankin'
Frank Zappa
Allman Brothers
Jimi Hendrix
Bob Dylan
Béla Fleck
Jimmy Smith
Gov't Mule

My father's played guitar for 40 of his 53 years, so I grew up listening to Zep, Hendrix, Santana, CCR, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Al Kooper, Deep Purple, etc. Actually, I love most of my pops' music--but I have my music, too.

Johnny Cash, huh Jamie? Pull your head up, Ol' Friend. Lemme know if there's anything I can do.

The Man in Black.

I'm in a depressed mood and it helps.

Sucks to hear that, OP:grumpy: Hope all comes out well, whatever's got you down:thumbup:

On that note, throw in a little Jimmy Buffett, kick back with a Pina Colada or Margarita (or a Pina Colada flavored fuze, if you're at work), and pretend you're on the beach. It doesn't always work, but it does sometimes;)

Thank you, but I'm just going to have to work this one out alone.

And thank you, WalterDavis. If Cash doesn't do it, I shall give that a try.

The ones in my CD player at the moment.

The Black Crowes-The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
David Gilmour-About Face
Led Zeppelin-Physical Graffiti
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble-In Step
Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here

Mostly west-coast, huh? Check Aceyalone's "Book of Human Language" for a classic.

oh yeah, I know that album. ;)

I like all kinds (east, west, southern, etc) as long as it's not cheesy pop or stupid ghetto rap (read: Little Wayne and T.I. that sort of junk). I have about 250 artists, 1200 albums, and 15k tracks in my underground hip-hop collection.

I also DJ underground hip-hop and trip-hop/down-tempo on occasion. I just saw Aceyalone, Ab Rude, and Mikah 9 together last month. Fortunately, between Boulder and Austin (where I used to live) we get lots of good shows, plus I usually go to SXSW each year to see more.

you're right though, underground hip-hop fans ARE pretty rare in here. It's nice to see there are a couple of others.

fortunately though, I love all sorts of music and listen to a wide variety on a daily basis so I get along pretty much everywhere.

;)

;)

just the other day I was listening to 'you put the **** in Country', and I know those racey Coe tracks too.

yeah, it's definitely more in your face than a lot of the underground I listen to on a regular basis.

I just love music in general. thank goodness there is so much out there.
