Whatchalisteninto?

David Gray- best mellow musician on the market. Sittin on the porch and wittlin some wood music!

Wow, I'm surprised I'm the only metalhead on the Busse Forum. I constantly rotate Grindcore, Death Metal, Thrash, Black Metal and post-hardcore/shoe gaze through my music selections. Of course, some of you guys are pretty old. :p JK :)

LOL, yeah, I just broke 40... When I was in my teens, the hardest stuff was Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and I was into all of that. Nowadays, I still love my Metallica, but the rest don't really do it for me anymore and also my musical tastes have expanded dramatically... Other than country/western, almost anything will do. Went through my phases over the last 10+ years too, including rap, R&B, and electronica... They also fell away (is it me or are rappers just getting plain lazy?), then got into the blues in a big way, which will probably always stick with me.

Pretty good stuff!! Didn't know a kid like you listened to classics.;)

Heck yeah!! Some of the best is STILL the best, and will always be the best! :D

I have been without a TV for about 2 years... Still not missing it much, and also my satellite radio crapped out, but I haven't got around to replacing it, so I have a lot of catching up to do with the newer groups worth listening to. If anyone who takes a peek at my playlist has any suggestions for new groups/artists worth checking out, please hook me up with a little 411! :)

Hey Alex, I'll check your list when I get on my Mac.

My current digital library is over 30k songs (with MANY MANY CD's not yet ripped), so I may have something to suggest to you. Of course a good 15k is hip hop, but the clasics are there, too, as well as Latin music, electronica, jazz, soul, funk...pretty much Nything BUT country--except in the case of old country rock. Got plenty of Eagles, Doobies (before that jackass Michael McDonald), Lynyrd, Etc...

Okay Alex, You could use some Al Kooper (just dig...he's genius) and some Incubus (Nice to Know You), Blind Melon (Mouthful of Cavities), Grateful Dead (Unbroken Chain--off of Live from the Mars Hotel).
Then grab "Jimi Blues" (Hendrix) and get a copy of Bob Marley's "Talkin' Blues."

Any fan of Devin Townsend here?
I rotate his albums the most (well, the rock ones, not the sounds of the ocean like Hummer), although at the moment, I'm listening to Extreme - Saudades de Rock. I like Iced Earth, Slayer, but also Rush, Mike Oldfield... oh, and ZZ-Top, too  And many more...

I'll be 40 this year...

I like something from every conceivable genre it seems, some more than others of course. I just love good music, great writing, and the sonic and lyrical landscapes painted by so many artists.

as for rappers getting lazy or the like, you really ought to try some others... there are literally loads (in the underground scene, never on radio or mtv or the like) who have amazing skills, are innovative, very hard working, not gangster wannabes, and very good writers. Abstract Rude and Aesop Rock, for example, are really very very good at what they do and no slouches by any stretch. If anyone would like some suggestions say so, I'd be happy to give a few more.

when I'm not jamming underground hip-hop or electronica, which is maybe half of what I listen to, I really love Gov't Mule, Tool, classics like Johnny Cash, folky/quirky guitarists and songwriters like Neko Case and Jim White. there is so much amazing music out there. And like gatman said, Blind Melon are (or rather - were) a great band.

my digital collection is up to 450GB and constantly growing. I have as much as I can in FLAC (lossless), thought there's still a bunch I haven't ripped or re-purchased after losing my last copy. I also have a bunch of vinyl (maybe 3500 pieces, mostly dance and disco) that I haven't even begun to rip.

lately I've been getting into some bluegrass (even an album of bluegrass covers of Modest Mouse tracks - how's that for genre-bending antics), a few live SRV shows from back in the day that I found - one such from Carnegie Hall which is a good one, and Wilco (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is such an amazing album in so many ways).

NICE, DDM. Digging through all thIs music is a lot like anthropology and archaeology put together. Thank goodness for diversity and art.

It's a shame hip hop has given itself such a bad rap. Spike Lee once said that "hip hop is the new minstrel show." it's sad.

What ya need on the playlist..is some Dave Matthews Band or from his solo CD and his LIVE CD's with Tim Reynolds..The bands new album Big Whiskey The GrooGrux King..is awesome!!

My favorite is "Shake me like a Monkey" and "You & Me" oh wait "Funny the way it is" is great too...Crap the whole CD is great!!!

As far as your play list you need some more Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam (early stuff) and a must is LIVE...the first album they did...Mental Jewerly is great, "Throwing Copper" got too air play then everyone liked them...also you gotta love Johnny Cash, (I am not a country fan but I do love him) and Etta James...Oh and Billie Holiday...that lady could sing the Blues:)

Just my 2 cents but I think you should check it out

LMAO!!! I feel old just reading your Napalm post:thumbup:

My main plays are Clutch and JS & Mescaleros, but I also frequent Exodus, Malevolent, Baphomet, Fugazi, and SOD of course. I have softened up a bit, but occasionally I'll throw in the Obituary, Gorguts, and some other random albums from the era (anyone remember Rigor Mortis...Immolation?;) )

BTW, Metal rules! Figure it out:D

You're not the only one. Although my answer to what I am listening to right now is Louise Prima, I've got Satyricon, Mastadon, and The Haunted in heavy rotation.

Am also listening to a lot of psycho-billy lately; Koffin Kats, Zombie Ghost Train and Nekromantix.

Oh, and some classic Creedance (maybe I am pretty old after all).

Im with AMY...Dave Matthews rocks... Although his new CD is not his best, its def original and has some sweet tracks on it. He has headed in a new direction with this with a New Orleans kinda flavor. Why I am, Funny the way it is are sweet tracks, but Amy nothin beats these tunes

1. Grey Street
2. Two Step
3. Granny
4.Warehouse
5. America Baby

+1 on the Hank III Me and my lady got to see the show a few weeks ago in Huntington. We missed the A**jack set because it was so hot in that place she started getting sick. BTW: Lucky Tubbs is one cool cat DTEMF!

Other than that:
Shinedown
BLS
Alice in chains
Kiss
Breaking Benjamin (awesome)
Many others...

Check out CMH records for some great bluegrass covers of your favorite metal bands also. David Lee Roth even sings a few songs on the Van Halen one. Definitely worth listening to.

1.Proudest Monkey
2.Crush
3.Bartender
