What's a good knife (clueless girl trying to buy a gift)

my knives of preference are Benchmade Barrage and Spyderco Para-Military 2. I have the benchmade, working on the Spyderco...

I hope he will appreciate such a nice gift! For non-knife lovers, even outdoorsmen, it might be a shock. The sheath will be necessary, but maybe he will need to decide which style, leather, kydex, belt carry, etc..

Great choice, and if he doesn't appreciate that gift, I'll be your friend!

sweet choice on the gift, id poop If I opened up one of them bad boys. I have an extra green kydex sheath laying around for rmd I made, not the best but should get the job done hopefully. Email me (user name at yahoo) your info and Ill send it out to you for free.

Cheers'
Eric

if he is right handed and likes "classy" and gentlemen like things, I would agree with the Benchmade Dejavoo recommendation. This knife is really attractive and has great materials/build. Other recommendation would be a Spyderco Gayle Bradley, or Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in camo.

Look, more people who missed the "he likes hunting and I'm looking at fixed blades" and the fact that she already bought a RatManDu. Very good choice. I would love to receive one of those as a present. Gotta say, you sound like a great friend :)

Yes, that RMD is gonna make him poop all over himself when he opens that gift, LOL!!

Fine choice... and if you ever need advice on another knife purchase, just drop on by. You came to right place!! ;)

Thanks so much Eric, that is very nice of you. I sent you an email, so let me know if you didn't get it (and I gave my address to some other random person with a similar email! ;) ).

And I have to say, I feel like I've learned quite a bit these past couple days!! I'm actually pretty excited myself to see this knife. The tracking says it's supposed to arrive on Friday, so when I get it I will take pictures and post them here.

This is a great forum, I will definitely come here for any future knife-buying advice. My friend swears he is going to have me shooting deer one of these days (I'm skeptical he is going to achieve this goal), but who knows, maybe next time I'll be hear looking for my own hunting knife!! :)

Displaced city girl, replied to ya but it bounced back so I left ya a vistor message on your profile. Its in the mail, hope it works out for ya.

That's weird I don't know why it bounced back!! But I just got your message on here, thanks so much! You are awesome! And I will make sure the bday boy knows that part of his gift is from "an awesome guy named Eric I found on a blades forum!"

Well there has been a lot of feedback already. My input. Knives are SO varied and taste plays such a roll I would defiantly consider sacrificing the surprise for being sure and just asking what he prefers. It's good to learn a bit from the suggestions here but no substitute for the horses mouth. For example (and I have not read through all the posts) I am sure at least a few people have suggested the Izula. It is a popular knife and many like it. It would hate to get that. I have one and can not stand the thing. Not that it is a bad knife, I just have no taste for it. So my advice is not what specific type to get. Just ask him.

The RMD is awesome! Any lady out there want to buy one for me? I'm anything but classy! JK

Hello!

So I'm trying to figure out a birthday present for my friend and I have decided a nice knife would be a good gift because he hunts, does all that outdoor stuff, likes those guy things, but I don't have the first clue about knives or what makes a good one etc. I went by Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and the guy pointed me to the knife section where they were like in packages, but if he wanted something that came in plastic wrap and cost $20 he could get it himself. Since I don't know what he already has, likes, needs, I figured a nice, high quality, good looking knife would be a safe bet because it seems like the type of thing even if you already have one, you would always appreciate another one. And I thought maybe I could get his initials engraved on it or something. Anyway, I really don't know where to start looking or what is considered to be good quality. But if I'm gonna shell out some cash I want to make sure I'm not just paying for something cheap, you know? My price range is probably up to $100 or so, although if it was like $130 for the perfect one I could deal with that.

Thanks for your suggestions and I really appreciate any advice so I can hopefully give a good birthday present. :)

There are so many different possible knifes that I think you should give him cash as well as sex. I think he would appreciate it more and he will be happy with his new knife. Plus, whos not gonna like the sex?

RMD is a great knife, although a bit big - but it is top quality, feels excellent in the hand, is definitely uncommon and if he likes the looks then he will love the performance! His friends will be jealous, good job!

It's here, it's here! :) Actually as luck would have it, the postman knocked on my door to have me sign for the knife package, then also handed me the package with the awesome sheath that Eric sent me. The sheath fits perfectly, Eric! And the color actually looks really good with the color of the handle I think. Here are pictures as promised!
