What's a good knife (clueless girl trying to buy a gift)

His bday is I'm 2 weeks, so I have to be patient (not what I'm best at lol). Is there anything that needs to be done to knives when you get them (eg sharpening or anything?) The knife really is pretty cool. Its bigger than I expected but I like it a lot and I think the color combo is cool.
 
The knife should be good to go. Excellent choice, I'm sure he will be delighted! I have one exactly like it...same color combo.
 
If you want a really good hunting knife, I'd suggest a Fallkniven f1.

edit: Ahh, you got a Swamp Rat, excellent. He'll love that.

I'm a big fan of the Grohmann Canadian Army knife. Nothing flashy but quality steel and fits so nice in your hand. R3SA

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but the OP made the decision, bought, and gifted the knife about a month ago already.
