You make some good points, that speak for themselves through your work. Although I always just eyeball my handles usually, I'll give your method a try one of these days.


And that's what I LOVE about knife making. It may be the oldest craft in human history- which is maybe why there are so many ways to go about it- yet there is no rule book, so the best way to learn is through each other and trial and error.

One last thing before I stop derailing the thread.
While the grid makes for perfect symmetry, it's time consuming. I'd advise doing a few handles this way from scrap wood as training. Once you do it a few times, your eyes will start to pick up symmetry on another level.
Once you reach that point, you will be able to get almost perfect symmetry with just a couple of center lines in the handle.

That looks promising, what's the plan for the handle?

I’m honestly thinking denim micarta with green liners…but with all thinks proto, it’s subject to change. Then again, I might just go black and grey multilayer G10 with white liners, maybe a ferric bath for the blade followed by cold blueing and then tumbling in some media.
