After a painfully long time, I finally broke down, stabilzed and sanded up some koa and awesome maple burl from sinker burls.

Knife number 3 and 4 to come out of my shop. Both still a work in progress, very close to finished. Both are ground thin enough to shave paper without an edge bevel, should be a quick sharpen on the stones/strops.
3.25" Pairing knife ground super thin. Just need to sharpen and buff some wax on the handle.

Had a small block of osage and figured why not so I made an end grain saya, friction fit.

And this one is my first custom order. Needs to be glued up, sharpened, and handle buffed. (And cleaned up a little)

Hi friends,
these are the pictures of the knife that I'm finishing for the exhibition to be held in Valdobbiadene (Italy) in March. The knife has mother of pearl handle and an OAL 18cm.

the first pictures were made after grinding to 400 grit with cork belt

it's time to mirror finish!

working mother of pearl is like cutting a diamond. I do not particularly like, but it is very challenging! The finished work is of great elegance.

Most of you probably didn't notice, but I've been on a two-year hiatus. Just made my wife's dream of building her own house (of her design) and had to take time off from knifemaking. While I don't have a new shop yet, I've managed to convert some space in the garage. It's not ideal, but at least I'm back at the grinder. I just finished sanding a small santoku/chef-style knife, and am practicing a tapered tang on a hunter. Steel is on order and hope to soon get some knives out. Man I've missed it!

Finished the kiritsuke. Might hand deliver it to the cousin-chef when we go down to see all the super cool cars that will never be made this weekend. Koa handle, G10 liners, W2 blade. The G10 is from Maker Material Supply, he's got .040" G10 now that's actually red, not translucent. So no more vulcanized whatever liners for me.

And... the world's best sheer for the money. I've been a mfg. jeweler for 40 years this year, and have found for the most part tools for/in my industry are way overpriced for what they are. A sheer from Gesswein or Rio Grande are anywhere from $400 to 1350! This one from Summit Racing is a whopping $120 shipping included! I use it for gold, silver, brass etc. It will sheer 1/8 inch of sterling w/no problem. A very cool tool for quick guard material cut off or whatever.

Today's "fun" was fitting a rombic guard[emoji26] this "only" took three hours to fit- yikes.... Tremendous respect to those tradional makers that fit rombic cross sections regularly...I don't find it very easy myself. Seems like wire EDM would work nicely but that's expensive and cheating-LOL. I'm pretty happy with the fit of the puukko bolster though considering, lots of slow going though. Measuring and remeasuring...

Now it's relitivly easy sailing

That is a beautiful knife Riccardo. I've never used M.O.P., it sounds like a p.i.t.a., but it sure looks nice!

Here are a couple more in the works for an upcoming show.

Another one in 15N20 steel and feather walnut. This wood has really nice figure but I wasn't able to capture it in my light box.

Here's a clipped hunter with spalted maple, dyed and stabilized.
