Some nice finds! Especially that kiln. Took me several months of checking CL to finally snag my little front loader.

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make it work. Or if 6 tons would do the job, but after a wee bit of modification I can press stamp my blades now. No more double strikes! The mark comes out much deeper and more consistent.

I like that drill press. Kind of an art deco look to it.

Got these two all finished up and pictures done. Both are 0.187" 1095. The top one is stabilized koa and my first tapered tang. The second one is some amazing waterfall bubinga. Pictures don't do it any justice.
I spent today whittling away at it. So far I've got it turned into this.
Really nice stuff Josh! How is the hand healing up?

Daniel.

Thanks and thanks for asking! Doing pretty well. The wound itself is all healed up nice. Still a little sore when I move a finger just right or use my hand a bunch. I'd imagine that's just the deep tissue stuff still trying to heal.

Finished up a few kitchen knives the past week. All 52100 @ 62 hrc handsanded to 800. All convex grinds ground on flat platen and thinned behind the edge on stones before finishing.

Nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, has been going on in my shop!! :barf: :barf: :barf: That has been what has been going on at home. My 4 year old daughter got the flu, then my wife got the flu, then I got the flu. It has been a couple of horrible weeks. Looking forward to getting out there and doing anything even if it's cleaning..

Sigh! Breaking blades in the quench! That's what's going on in my shop

That sucks. Happening to me too. I was doing an interrupted water / oil quench to try and stimulate greater hamon activity. 2 seconds in the water, then at the count of 3 in oil... *tink*

Kukari, that was more or less exactly what happened to me, but 1 second in the h20. It didn't start cracking until it was out if the quench though. Shoulda just went to the oil... (sigh) didn't help that the power kept going off so I couldn't get it into the oven for the temper. The joys of living way out in B.F.E.

I should have known better than to try this on such a large blade. I heat treated 2 smaller blades at the same time, also with clay, just went straight to oil quench and their hamon looks like it's going to be fine. Should have experimented on one of these instead :D

Nothing spectacular here. But I am excited anyways. It's a stool!!! I've just been pulling up a cooler to the work bench while sanding and it's been killing my back! And what else is new? Oh yeah! I got the flu! Which means everyone else in my family is going to get it. So fun times here!

Daniel.

I checked out a bladesports international competition that Scott Gossman hosted a few weeks ago. Got me itching to make something for myself for a change. So this is 15" OAL, 10" blade, 1/4" thick O1. Ready for heat treat.
