Ive been Drawing alot the last few weeks and i think i want to do a small run of EDC fixed blades. the handle looks a little funky but i made a mock up and its pretty comfy for me and has a few different grip options. its nice and wide at 1.5 inches and a 4 inch blade. pictured is 1/4 stock. It will probably change a bit before i decide on final material and send it off to the water jet but so far to keep it tough and affordable im thinking 80crv2.

Man you guys make some killer stuff. Here is my first attempt....hope to have my home grown micarda on it this weekend.
I quoted this because I am curious as to what kind of handle/scale material this is. The top one that looks like an alien spine.
I am also diggin the aluminum honeycomb stuff....where does a fella get that.
Hmmmm....guess I am not posting a pic. I am getting a url option but not an upload from my documents option.

Nah it's new. Just bounced around a lot before they bought it I'm guessing. I've got a few dozen special cylinders for construction equipment that look about the same in our shipping dept because our customer changed the design without any warning. If only they weren't such oddball things I'd have used one of them.

Pine cone ehhh....I would have never guessed that. Might have to try that soon....I have a 80' pine tree in my front yard. Thanks
Loving this thread.....been through pretty much every post. Have some more steel on the way and some copper rod for the handle on my first knife.

Just finished for a client.

The old:

The new:
On the knife I replaced: all stacked leather disks, front and back spacers - were plastic, now Ebony, the guard, and the innermost of the three steel butt plates. I re-welded the broken "T" at the end of the tang, reground/trued the tang shoulders, and reground the bevels. The leather handle was sanded to 600 grit with various intermittent additions of gum tragacanth and mink oil and staining with a combo of dark brown leather dye and vinegaroon.

The new sheath of 6/7 oz. veg tanned leather, also colored with the same brown dye/vinegaroon is now a "righty" at the request of the owner.

New member here and I just am getting into the world of knife making. I currently have only purchased blades and then finished the guard/bolster, pinned the handle, etc. but I would like to at least try grinding my own blade at some point.

Here is the 2nd knife that I have done. When I was sanding I noticed that the blade looks to be cracked on the bottom near the pins on the left of the photo. Without that crack I would have spent a little more time making it look better but I'm sure many of you can relate to my frustration.

I made some mokume gane billets today. They worked out really well. I think I'll try a slightly larger billet next time. This was fun and I'm not sure if I will sell it or hang on to it.

Well one step forward two steps back. Looks like I'll be taking the engine out of my Trailblazer and rebuilding it in the shop. Maybe I'll be able to get "some" knife making in this summer. Just got all the problems fixed in this dag thing 2 weeks ago and think it has a bad rod or wrist pin now... :poop: :poop: :poop:

I've been really busy with a lot of different things. I think knifemaking may be the perfect ADD activity, as you can switch from task to task and between different styles. (at least when it's not your bread and butter I guess). So I have been heavy into kitchen knives, so these two are AEB-L stabilized/ dyed birdseye and stabilized spalted maple and G-10.

A rehandle in stabilized spalted maple for a friend. He gave me the spalted maple right before his dad passed. He had me rehandle this knife that his dad used and had rehandled with some screws and nuts sticking out the side of slabs of hickory. His dad was a perfectionist in many ways and wanted me to rehandle this for him prior to his passing.

A little kwaiken for a customer. I really like the finishing steps Kuraki was kind enough to email me. Unfortunately, I had heat treated it prior to his email with the customer (he wanted to see flaming oil and explosions, i had to let him down from his "FIF" vision gently. he still had a great time hanging out)

And finally a knife for me. My first go at a competition cutter for an event to be hosted by Scott Gossman of Gossman knives. O1 1/4" thick. 15" OAL.
