Perhaps a quick oneWill you be doing a review of your new grinder? As a Frenchman I’m pretty interested in a locally produced grinder.
I think 120 grit and red Scotchbrite leaves a pretty neat user finish. I think I will pair it with some matte brown micarta.

They just brush up the finish. It takes a lot to remove significant amounts of steel in my, limited, experience.Neat. Do scotchbrite belts leave a slight convex in your opinion? Is that a FFG down to the handle? Brisa fileguide?
As far as the plungeless grind, is that because of the looks or being able to do it with a short in height blade? They just brush up the finish. It takes a lot to remove significant amounts of steel in my, limited, experience.
Yes it is a FFG, there will be a tiny ricasso between the grind and the handle. I am doing this vertical grind since I am not convinced about the plungeless approach on full tang not so tall blades.
Yes the file guide is from Brisa!

Working on this Zulu pattern slipjoint with rag micarta I pulled out of ~100 year old gear.

Thanks. Stabilized band dyed box elder burl.Horsewright , those are beautiful. What’s the handle material on the kitchen knives in the 5th and 6th picture down?
Just curious, where did you find that gear, or did it find you?
I agree. I didn’t know if you didn’t think you could get it tapered or not. Looks good though! I’ve done blades that size and I agree that they are a little thick in the heel area unless it’s .060” stock or so. That’s the only way I’ve felt good about it.Beacuse of the short height. It can be done but I just think maybe the blade gets a little too thick to soon in the heel area since the height is limited. If you see what I mean. Here is a pic of the same profile, plungeless.
