What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

Your knives are always great to see. They are definitely what I am striving for. What grit stones do you use to sharpen? Thanks for posting. I hope you are enjoying your time in Europe. I have not been out of the U.S. since March and it is killing me.
Thanks
This one I just posted and it’s sold.

Generally king 1000 grit and king 6k or
Loaded leather strop... sometimes a Tsushima or aizu natural stone which is about 3-4k

I finally finished this. Not happy with a lot of things, but happy that it is finally done.

Lighting hides a lot of mistakes in the finish.

Next one is gonna be in 4mm 14c28n with a shorter and beefier handle and integrated (real) micarta guard.

And a short vid after rough sharpening with a 400g diamond stone.

When I start glueing a batch and its friday (I don't go to the shop on weekends, its 25km/15mi away from home) I use 24hs epoxy instead of 10 minutes, its way more efficient. It properly cures over the weekend and I resume work on monday. Nevertheless I use 10min a lot more by far, and for example, with the unglued ones in the plastic box.

Got my mini mill down into the shop today. Strapped it to a two-wheel dolly, and got a neighbor to help me get it down the stairs - one on the handle holding back to ease the wheels over each edge and down to the next flat, and the other lifting on the mill to make sure it did not do a hard drop onto the next step. I DEFINITELY asked the right person - I had long suspected that he did some workout/weightlifting ..... but when it came to lift the thing up onto the table, I mentioned two of us .... one on each side. He said, "no - I've got this" .... and just casually lifted the thing from the floor onto the workbench. Turns out he bench presses 315 pounds. :-)

I have the vise installed and have it set up well enough (checking square of the vise and rough square of the table (using a machinists square versus a drill bit in the chuck) for basic non precision drilling. I still need to do a real job of tramming the table and precision squaring the vise .... but at least this is enough to get me going for now.

This is one really nice piece of equipment. all the controls are tight and you can barely hear the motor running when you turn it on (it is a brushless direct drive motor)

Nice! Milling machines are a ton of fun and I use mine on every single knife in one way or another.

Spend good time getting things trammed correctly as finish will depend quite a bit on it, especially on a smaller machine with less mass behind it. You can do it very well with a dial indicator, moving the quill up/down with an indicator running along it from multiple sides and there are many guides online.

@AVigil My girlfriend is happy about the new addition to our kitchen table. :)

I will keep this at home for finishing handles after work at home.

Started this Wa handle with dowel last year and blew out the walnut bolster at the tang slot.

I set it aside and forgot about it until today. Came across an old thread here with a solution. 60DC443E-3E7D-421D-B4CD-1F2184A660A8.jpeg
Now to make it a tighter fit.
