What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

First custom sheath, again, a lot of mistakes were done, but the next one is gonna be twice as fast and twice as good :) also, now I need a kiridashi and a leather knife. I feel like 90 percent of the time I am working on the shop, tools, materials and accessories and 10 percent of the time on the knifes.

Rounding up a couple of X-mas pettys. A little more finishing, and sharpening to do.

You perfected those petties, I want to see you do something else :)

Also, you mentioned to flatten the grind on the wheel vertically, if I do this, it's a ffg with no convexity right. What I mean, this also grinds out any convexity that might have been put there before (purposely or accidentally).

Thank you :) Next up is a 220 mm K-tip gyuto and a tall nakiri. Just had to get this X-mas gifts out of the way so to speak.

I flatten the grind, well the vast majority of it, on the platen. But the plunge line I am left with, I blend on a wheel longitudinally. Also, I do the last extra thining if the blade on the wheel.
So in the plunge area there is kind of convexity. The rest is flat-ish, probably a little convex towards the edge since that area gets worked a little more when thinning.
I really hope this made any sense :)

Finally finished up this modified Nakiri I am giving to a friend. First time I have tried a multi-part western style handle. It went pretty well....
AEB-L (62 rockwell), handle is Chakte Viga and an unknown dark tropical I got from the grab-box at Woodcraft, Corbys and a mosaic pin. If anyone can identify the species of the dark wood from the photos below I would appreciate it. I do not know what it is, but rather like the texture.....

I did that too, with a female on the VFD. Recently made this instead. 10 dollar cam switch and 4 dollar box. Makes it easier.

For me, “easy” and “electrical” should never be used in the same sentence, paragraph, or page. My nickname is not lightening jockey for nothing!

Had couple of friends for a visit over weekend and we all did kiridashis together, it was a fun project. They all have a machine finish and/or etch+bluing and make do handles due to time constraints.

@Natlek I also cut in into my by-product of wood stabilising (I also stabilised the cone before putting in the resin). I am still not sure if I would like it on a knife of mine, but it looks really flashy

The stain is just the evaporated alc.
