My daughter let one of her friends sharpen her santoku (I made) with a cheapo carbide vee. It put a belly in the blade. While the edge reconstruction was necessary it was still annoying. So to make it fun, I gave the stabilized black palm a CA finish. I also took the patina off and gave it a side of mustard trying to ehco the black palm. I like it and hope she does as I haven't told her yet about the changes.

One almost ready with Oak Burl, and second in progress ( waiting to finish 4 more from this steel, and 4 from 1065)

Working on a micarta handle I made a loop in the cork I had so the vice didn't mar the blade. I left a loop on top for the shop vac and it did a bang up job of dust collection.

So in the "week-end" time here is what I have been doing.

The first one is an 8" bowie.

The second one is a 9.25" bowie with a hamon that I had to re-polish after putting a nasty gauge in it.

Both clips are sharp off the belt. My fingers can speak for that...."ouch".

I have the guards cut out and ready to drill holes into them.

Got my new platen with chiller yesterday from Nathan and got it set up today. I works well with the grinder vertical and horizontal. If any one else with a TW90 buys it you will need longer bolts for the platen which are easy to replace 1/4 20 bolts 1 1/4 long worked for me. And shave off a 1/4 in length on the back of the tool arm so you have enough room to easily move the arm back for taking belts on and off. Here's the new setup.

Do you have two tw90 grinders? Very nice

I have three but one was supposed to go in a van for a mobile knife sharpening business that got axed after a burglary made that impossible. I wanted all my grinders to be the same so I can make jigs and have them work on all my grinders instead of making several for different grinders to do the same job.

I am learning where a 2x72 might have saved me a ton of time. I doubt I will make another stock removal bowie. I haven't had a lot of time to stick to the knives lately but I have made some improvements. I also broke down and used micarta on this one, despite claiming to not work with synthetics. None of the natural materials I had set aside for this would have worked well.

Butch,

Eye injuries are the worst. This is one of the reasons I switched from glasses to a full face shield. Good luck healing up and take it easy in the mean time.

Just a small slip joint I'm working on. Ought to fit in a watch pocket pretty well.:D
Excuse the crappy cell phone pics.
