Whats going on with Emerson

Pretty sure half the comments here don’t address anything remotely close to what the OP is asking. If you’re not here to help answer his question, why not create a thread called “Emerson: Random thoughts on the brand and maker”?

So tell us…. Since you know…..

Sorry for trying to keep it on topic. I’ll try to avoid it in the future 🤷‍♂️

Emerson being such an odd duck (and proud of it, to boot), there's bound to be some comments about him and his designs Comes with the territory.

Going to leave thread open for now. Please discuss the topic. Do not discuss each other. If there is an actual problem with the thread, use the report post button.

I like Mr. Emerson, he was very personable and kind when I spoke with him on the phone years ago. The thing is though is the continued rise in prices of his products. All the while the materials and fit n finish has slid to the wayside it seems. I mean there are other companies out there that make a better product with tighter tolerances and cutting edge materials and still come in under the msrp that he charges. In my opinion, his name can only take him so far until normal folks like us simply cannot afford to pay for his products.

I’ve always heard of poor fit and finish and have seen such on display models in stores several years ago but I can honestly say that out of the 8 Emersons I’ve owned they have all had pretty good fit and finish. My horseman initially had a little lock rock but after the lock wore in that went away. My newest a cqc7b has the new single detent and was perfect with even a drop free action if that matters. They aren’t for everyone but in my experience fit and finish is no longer a problem.

I find Emerson knives to sort of be “no frills tactical beater knives”. They can be serviced with screwdrivers, and the chiseled edge and 154cm takes a beating and keeps on ticking. They are the sort of knives that you can throw in the gravel and kick around and you don’t mind all that much because it improves the “aesthetic” the brand goes for. My only complaint is that I wish they spent more time dealing with lockstick before they left the factory. I’d pay more for an Emerson that left the factory “lockstick free”.

The prices are a bit high for the materials, but hey.. they’re worth what people are willing to pay.

Thank you for this. So is it just they think they will make more profit by cutting out the dealers? Wouldn't there by additional advertising costs eating that profit without dealers doing that for them?

Are there any other production companies that only sell direct?
I think a few well places YouTube reviews can handle the advertising for them

If you sharpen the inside of the wave it's also a shroud cutter for parachutes.

It's been like that for awhile with Emerson. Going on 2 years by now. I posted it in the Emerson board awhile back.

I think it has to do with counterfeit issues really. Like almost every other quality knife Emerson started getting some fakes in for warranty repairs and they were sold through some pretty rebuttal online dealers. This supposedly is their way of dealing with it. If you didn't buy direct from them then it is a fake in their eyes. When I asked how i could tell mine was real that was the first question they asked me. Where did I buy it and did I buy it from Emerson direct. And yes, shipping direct from Emerson sucks. Shipping is over $30 direct.
