It seems like very small businesses like that in the EDC world are coming one of two ways, they're either machine shops that get into the design aspect (Tactile Turn and TRM) or designers/custom makers that find an OEM and find small batches that they sell directly (ArcForm or EMPEDC).I thought it was interesting seeing TuffThumbs go from customization, to custom knives, to creating ArcForm.
Wonder how many other "Instagram/forum dealers" will be able to grow like that.
Tactical Turn is cool, because I got to help them grow by getting copper pens from a couple of their Kickstarters. Haven't managed to snag any of their knives yet.
Bingo, GEC should do the same thing. And keep all the profit.

I thought it was “to keep people on BladeForums happy”. . . which is the primary reason for running a business.
Fwiw, my buddy swears by Quiet Carry, loves them!As far as I know Quiet Carry only sells direct. If a brand is popular enough the products do their own marketing because of the nature of social media these days. It doesn't seem like a bad idea for a brand in this position based on the steep discount dealers get buying wholesale. My only question is does Emerson still command enough attention from the market? I feel like they were very popular for a little while, but they haven't really done much to stay relevant lately.
I see a lot of people that hate when a brand they dislike has a loyal following. Not sure why you felt the “autistic” remark was necessary.Well, his autistic #1 fanbois will be very happy that they will probably get in the front of the line for his first production/limited edition knives. He gets his money no matter what.
How many knives can they possibly complete per day? A couple dozen tops? They can't ship that many per day?... It's been two business days. Expecting Amazon like speeds out of a small business, especially at a high volume time of year, might be expecting too much.
Maybe take what he’s saying with a grain of salt. I think that post might have more to do with me than it did “Emerson”.How many knives can they possibly complete per day? A couple dozen tops? They can't ship that many per day?
I may be wrong about their production capacity but can't be that far off. They shouldn't be behind on shipping anything they say is "in stock".

First of all, I’m not “upset”. I just think it’s terribly slow… but cute “strawman”.I don't know anything about their production capacity, their shipping capacity, or what kind of sales volume they have.
I do know that ordering on a Sunday (non-business day) and being upset that it hasn't shipped before business opens on a Thursday is a little overboard.
Eh. I'm no Emerson fan, but I'll offer a little defense of them here. Shipping to a distributor/dealer is usually mostly on your own schedule, not theirs, and is done in fairly large lots. Moving from that to shipping on demand for single orders is a pretty major shift. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a couple months for them to get the process nailed down. How many knives can they possibly complete per day? A couple dozen tops? They can't ship that many per day?

Actual cost for a small Flat Rate Priority box is under $9.
It depends on whether you have a commercial account. $9.20 retail vs. $8.65 commercial base rate. It’s over $9 now bro
($30 is still stupid)
If he can make the same or more money, that's great. But his production knives were/are 10% less expensive at retail, not including the shipping cost. $185 shipped vs. $225 shipped is a big difference to consumers. The bigger issue for him will be cash flow, which is much different when you've got stock on hand rather than the retailer paying you up front. Which goes back to why most of the knife manufacturers that only do direct sale are small brands that have trouble keeping up with demand.Makes perfect sense to me, why have a retailer sell his products when he can do it himself.
Yeah, I kinda led on like I was disappointed. I only meant there shouldn't really be a seasonal delay on Emerson's part.Eh. I'm no Emerson fan, but I'll offer a little defense of them here. I guess no one remembers the days of ordering from a catalog and never knowing when your item will get there. Squabbling over instant gratification is stupid and embarrasing. Companies vary, shipping times vary. You should just be thankful you have the money for the knife and that its in stock this time of year, especially with these changes. I could understand complaining about shipping if it was more than a week, but a few days? Come on man!
Haha! Four to six weeks was the standard. We've got it gooood now!I guess no one remembers the days of ordering from a catalog and never knowing when your item will get there.
Good for you. That’s not how I want my knife ordering to work.I used to order used books from Amazon Zshops, like a dozen at a time. Over the next month or two they'd trickle in and I'd do it again. Was fun being surprised by mail call every day.
