  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

The fc7 seems like it should have red scales. But I'm open to options. I'll get up with you on the private message side and we'll make a plan.

So thinking a lot about jimping lately, especially as I sit here designing knives in the CAD program. It occurred to me that the function of jimping, namely to keep one's hand from sliding up onto the blade, is accomplished even better by Suretouch when cut like my little orange necker. I will not have jimping on my own personal knives going forward, but this Suretouch and texture will be my go to every time for any knife I will carry.

I like the jimping to help me know when I am encroaching on the blade with my hand without having to look, or to help me get a "feel" for where my hand is on the handle (same with a finger choil).

A blocky handle just makes a knife less controllable and versatile. I've read a few makers comment that they gravitated towards thinner handles as they made more knives and gained more experience. That being said, I can see blockier handles being useful for people who might have difficulties with their hands, so everything has a place. Well maybe everything but .05" thick edge bevels on a 3" long blade...

Ooops that drawing is 13"
