What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

That busse looks about 23-24 oal? Sad not to see it in person but that regrind looks excellent from the pictures.

Very nice upcoming aebl run, I look forward to seeing all the pictures of the knifes on the sheets. It'll fun to see the ones that aren't pictured aswell. You got a count of whats on the two sheets if you don't mind sharing a number? Seems with all the upcoming runs the rest of the year is pretty well layed out and that's pretty cool.

Posted a new thread here with the unclaimed stuff on the new AEB-L run. I decided to go with a different design on the waki, partial tang, and less pronounced upsweep. I'm only having two made after all. I'm going all in on partial tang daggers of a few different sizes.

why the change on the tang of the waki?

got me curious.....

why the change on the tang of the waki?

Gives me more freedom on handle shape and I can squeeze out a slightly longer blade on the same size sheet. The handle when finished will be a couple inches longer than the tang.

thought the same thing initially, but sheet picture in other thread doesn't appear so. on space saving needed......

You are correct, as far as overall width goes. If I were making a bunch of Baraxes I would definitely save space. But I'm only making one, and it is going to be the skeletonized tang version after all.

ahh.....makes sense. thanks David.

And yes, the partial tangs on those daggers definitely save space and allow a higher yield of blades per sheet. Of course, that just means each sheet costs more to plasma cut and heat treat 🤣 , but I'm glad to support Jarod and his family.

I like the one in the red box.

It almost looks like a Prevalito. If not, what is it, and what is the blade length, and how does it differ from Prevalito, in case I want to claim it?

Thanks!

That's great work - I bet it actually cuts now. (No disparagement meant towards Busse and Family, but my dullest new knives, most wonky edge bevels from the shop, came from Busse and Swamprat).

The gentler edge sweep to the tip - like that change from a personal design and aesthetic angle.
David just doubled it's value......

My last one from them almost had a 1/16" thick bte..... UGH!
It's really hard to want another.

It's true that such a bte on some types of blades contributes to a seemingly indestructible tool....until you try to drive a fat edge wedge into dead hard wood.

I have another blade by another maker, but similar to this topic....15 inch blade, 1/4"+ stock, edge bevels that have the gemetry of a cold chisel,..... and the shock to my hand when impacting wood is unbearable after a few minutes. To make it worse, it would barely process/chop/split material. It was at least, an edge with evenly ground bevels...

Quick update: I've slowed things down in the shop while I await certain resupply orders to show up, including new glass platens, and belts. Almost everything has arrived, still waiting on the belts. I also have some repairs to make to some equipment.
