What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Refined the Barax ergos. Was a bit chunky and hot spotty for me at first. Now it’s excellent. The thinner flat handled Baraxes are easier to make so that they flow effortlessly in chops and slashes. Or maybe just less time consuming. But this one is ready for work and has already proven itself quite well on vegetation and hard wood.

I don't think that I'm cut out for owning one of these big blades.

(get it, cut out?)

I am starting a knife mod for T T.McGee today, and along with his knife the package contained four blanks. Four small EDC knives in LC200N. These were blanks that were started by a new maker a while back, who ended up deciding he didn't have the wherewithal to finish them. This new maker had tried his hand at grinding them, each one differently. One was a tanto shape, with a bevel on only one side, one was a half height saber grind of not bad quality and a couple of them were the beginnings of some indeterminate grind. The grinds were clearly not from one experienced, and the one that was finished was pretty thick before sharpening. I forgot to take a before picture yesterday.

Anyway the maker ended up giving these to T.McGee , who asked me if I thought I could salvage and use them. He had already given me three similar blanks previously, which I made into finished knives and moved along to new home.

Before finishing the Sylvan sheath yesterday, I worked on these to see if I could do anything with them. I wanted to be able to offer one of his choice to T.McGee as a thank you, and ship it back along with his knife I am modding, but he declined and said I should sell all four. Well his generosity is going to be the boon of a lucky few people. Whereas normally LC200N is quite expensive - twice as expensive as MagnaCut in fact- these blanks came to me at no cost, so the knives I make with them will be priced with no accounting for steel or heat treatment costs (they were heat treated by Peters, but the way, to around 58-59 RC if I remember my initial conversation with T.McGee about the first three of these he sent me). So these will be four LC200N knives priced lower even than I would price AEB-L knives of the same size.

Probably keep for myself as well, since it has been a while since I had myself a waterproof knife to play with. And probably with Suretouch, and maybe even with a partial hidden tang to allow for a longer handle of a different shape.

This first pic was a little early, but the next three pics after that were after a few more minutes of refining:

I didn't like the pointy finger groove so much last time, so these ones don't get to have it.
