What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

I was going to take another crack at no sheath and I make by request of whoever buys it in the exchange but the votes in my poll leave me thinking that making a sheath at the same time and offering both together up front is the better option. Saves complications at least.

So I have two started for the current knives.

And I have been further modifying those lc200n blades that were given to me. They had pin holes way too far back if I wanted the scales to cover the guard, which I do. So I ground them with the angle grinder. I know it’s ugly. But it will be underneath the scales. Pretty much the only way I can do it with my current shop. After I finish them you’d never know … unless I use Jade G10. Definitely not on these!

Note: if you ever try this you have to go slow. Let it build up only so much heat then take it out of the vise but don’t dunk it. You’ll snap the handle in half. I know, I’ve done it. Best bet is to wet your fingertips and tap the heated area briefly until successive taps no longer hiss and throw steam. Then when you can handle the blade, dunk it, clamp it back in the vise and keep cutting and repeat. Then I round the ends with a diamond bit in the dremel.

Yes I have a ghetto shop and ghetto processes. I own it. I do more with less and I’m okay with it.

Have you ever tried carbide drills?
Early on my efforts used expensive ones, but a Mentor here sent me a link, and now I enjoy cheap ones that work somewhat.....but still not fun. But work. At least they are cheap

Yes I have and this is easier and faster, ie costs less for the customer who buys the knife.

These are going to be awesome you’ll see

I just had a project knife come in- Schrade SCHF52M- heavy pig with no handling. Blade alone was 14oz. I tried carbide bits to drill lightening holes in the tang but ended up with the angle grinder and doing a slot like David just showed. Gave it some distal taper as well. I managed to remove 1.5oz. It slices much better but will does not feel very lively. Decent truck knife.

Decided to call it here and sleep on it a couple nights before I decide how to finish the handles.

Time for the skitter skedaddle anyway. This is one of easily a couple dozen I’ve destroyed tonight.

Hard to focus on working when multiple winged assassins are trying to assault from all angles

But yes, quite so. Yet it brings me the satisfaction of the kill over and over again. By the way, did you notice all the blades ended up reground to the blade shape you liked? I think you're on to something. In my opinion it just looks nicer and is also more useful.
