What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Been working with Good Knife Co. on a new design. This time I've done the CAD files for the blade and Micarta scales which will be profile cut by SendCutSend and sent to Chad for handle construction. I may have provided a very small amount of design input re things like pin holes and skeletonization, but I don't know yet if I am authorized to show the design publicly. BUT it just so happens I can fit ten of my own hidden partial tang daggers on the .210 8670 sheet we'll be running the prototype on.

Now it's off to the shop to finish those 8 knives for my friends, and possibly start on one of the three new projects I mentioned Saturday.

How do I do it?

Well my friend, I have a few blades in stock at the moment that you could choose from. If you let me know what you are most interested in to narrow it down, I can show you some options. And I have created a post that gives a list of pretty much everything I have learned up to now about knife making, which you may look over to get some additional ideas:

And then we can discuss the details by PM, email, text or phone call, as you prefer.

Cool! I will check the link out, and be in touch!

I'm setting up a small run of 1/8" 8670 blades, which will include a Barax and Speed gladius requested by a new customer. And this will be on it as well, my tribute to Elijah Isham's "Arakis", with a few profile adjustments based on my ergonomic prefrences and deletion of the finger choil, of course! It is called "Desert Serpent":

Skeletonization pattern closely imitates the skeletonization on the Arakis folder, and I am thinking a translucent material like Jade G10 or some kind of resin would be appropriate to allow it to show. There is at least one prototype claimed and slated for production in the next few months in 1/8" 8670 steel.

I just learned about a little thing called CITES (pronounced sight-ease) which stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (hold on let me take a breath). Why did I hear about it? Let me tell you. I just tried to order some natural wood scale material from Bell Forest Products, and my transaction was declined, because some of the items are considered illegal to export from the USA! Guess which ones? Well some of you may recall last time that it was Honduras Rosewood. And now this time, PADAUK!!! Of all the things to no longer be able to get, what a sad day for Canadian woodworkers. Thankfully I found 7 small blocks of it in stock at a Knifemaker dot ca, so they are on their way to me now, along with a very exciting cast of characters from Bell Forest:

Black Palm
Bloodwood
Bocote
Indian Ebony
Leopardwood
Purpleheart
Redheart
Walnut
Zebrawood
