What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Thanksgiving here so I thought I'd drop by before the day really kicks off and wish this little corner of the forums a happy Thanksgiving if it's today for you and for the rest I just wanted say say I'm thankful for the community.

David I'm not just thankful for the blades I use daily but for the friendship and conversation on and offline.

Have a blessed day everyone

Very much echo the sentiment. Happy T-Day to you and yours as well.

I finally have some free time to do whatever I want in the shop until Peter’s and JT send me some blades back.

So I started a skinner:

And modded one of my pokey short sword blanks into a 9” dagger for a gentleman. Awaiting hande material for that one. Suretouch of a color I’m out of stock on.

And also modded my personal Barax machete. I had the misguided notion to give it a super thick handle with a palm swell but it was too thick and round so I could not use it easily for nimble cuts and slashes, though it was fine as a chopper. The girth and roundness was no good for edge alignment on fast direction changes. Now with a slightly thinner and flatter handle cross section it does both, and would be a fine martial blade in addition to woods tool.

Front of the scales were already slightly tapered so I barely even had to touch them, meaning original sheath fits just as well as before without needing modification.

So you have a leftover piece from the dagger. Seems a fun little piece to do something with. I'm picturing a spade bit like tool for chamfering eyelet holes. Or an arrow shaped letter opener would be fun.
