What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Ever tell you how much fun this part is in the winter? 🤣

Just because I’m not a total idiot doesn’t mean I can’t do stupid things. Sometimes. Maybe that’s why God invented cayenne pepper.

It might not look like much now but it was deep enough and a gushin

I might know how you feel. A while back, I was cutting up a whole bunch of ghost peppers with my bare hands for a taco party. Yeah, that's dumb enough. Before I noticed the burning sensation on my hands, I had to take a leak. More sensitive places let me know right away! 😮

I guess I should actually explain what happened! 🤣

Okay so, the old garage the shop is in has 2x4 crossbeams overhead, and Chris keeps stuff in there, like lumber, some piping, etc. At the front of the shop, just past the crossbeams, there is one log as well for some unknown reason. Probably been there for thirty years.

Anyway I use the dremel, I stand in a spot by my vise, where I have screwed a foot pedal to the side of my bench, which activates the dremel so I can hold the dremel flex shaft in one hand, and the workpiece in the other. Well the log is right above that spot, so for the past two years whenever I dremel I have to hunch over.

Chris popped into the shop today and because I spent a whole shop day using the dremel recently, which kind made me a little stiff and achy, I asked him if he minded me removing the log. We both noted it wasn't really supporting any weight from anything up there as it was all resting on the 2x4s, and the log was a couple inches lower. So he stuck around a couple minutes, while I hand sawed the log and helped me get it outta there, which resulted in a ton of dust falling onto the bench, as can be seen in the pic.

Well, momentarily stupid me, I forgot the knife was in the vise when I set about vacuuming up the dust, and as I reached the nozzle in behind the vise and pulled it back, I karate chopped the unyielding tip of an Empire Outfitters Mini Insomniac. Resulting in the need to pack the relatively deep gash with cayenne pepper. It stopped the bleeding so well I was able to do this after work:

I know what you did, just seeing the last pic, in the vice.... :/ Ouch!
Glad it clotted!

I remember a couple years ago you talking about your steel piece, could you discuss it more? I see it's holding open your kydex? Good idea, I just use my finger....

I've been wanting a small piece of steel for sanding, and such, but all the ones I tried feel like the wrong size....too big or too small.

What else do you use IT for?

Thanks.

Hey Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer . That is a piece of hardened 8670 that was ordinally part of a larger blank that I modded, either to accommodate a customer's request for a slightly different design, or my own whimsy, I can't remember. I had used it for a few things, but now it mostly just gets used to hold a sheath open for final spray out. I tried using it as a backing for when hand sanding handles, but use a piece of G10 for that now, which I have given a flat side, a convex side, a sharp corner, and a round corner. The G10 is lighter and makes for less fatigue when doing lots of hand sanding.
