What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

No can do, Doc. Fluff makes my heart rate red line every time no matter where it is. Have to take constant breaks from Smokey just so my chest doesn’t explode.

😉

that mushroom with eyes is reminding me of the Mario mushroom character......

Yes! See DocJD DocJD ??? He instantly recognized my drawing. I can feel my PayPal account tingling from all the money he wants to send me so it can be his alone.

also knives lookin good.......

Sure great, but THAT MUSHROoM! AMIRITE!??

DocJD DocJD hypothetically speaking, if I were to make a serrated Prevail XL (the only model in the Prevail family you are missing), what handle material would you consider to be the feline vocalization thereupon?

Some of you may recall my old shop, literally 10’ x 8’ with room for little more than a bench and a cabinet. Outside by basement apartment with no lock and no heat in winter.

This garage Chris has let me use these last three years is leaps and bounds better than that. But he invited me to use it at a time that was far from perfect for him. He is a father of five children including a couple of special needs boys and yet he sacrificed an entire garage to me so I could continue my, then, barely two year venture into making a living as a maker.

If you’ve seen some of the photos I’ve posted in this thread you may have noticed that there was a lot of stuff in the rafters, and I haven’t been at liberty to remove it or fully take control of the garage. As such, Chris never asked me for any compensation, but just let me use it without cost.

Of course I felt the need to give him something for electricity costs. But he didn’t even ask for that, I volunteered it.

Anyway I showed up at the shop today and found all the stuff removed from the rafters and sitting outside. PVC and old lumber and stuff.

Chris and I had been talking about eventually setting up a more formal rental agreement whenever he could give me unrestrained run of the garage and that day has come! Woohoo!

So today has been repurposed into a cleanup day, and as resources permit I’ll be getting it set up more efficiently too. Shelves, another bench probably, etc.

And those two rafters right at the bench that are always tickling the top of my head? Gone!

I will post pics later or eventually.

Congrats! I recently upgraded my shop size and know how much of a difference it can make!

Whenever I angle grinder cut a hardened blank such as this EDC universal 2 for custom orders, I always leave room for a heat affected zone I can grind off.

IMG_3994.jpeg

I decided to mostly cut this one and then snap it so you can see the grain structure. This is from Peters. That 62 HRC MagnaCut is like pudding.

He wanted a 4” blade, straight spine with no jimping, and a slightly deeper groove for the index finger resulting in more pronounced guard. Now there is only one MagnaCut EdC universal 2 remaining unclaimed.
