What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

If nobody likes terotuf I don't blame you, it gets too dirty and is too hard to clean. So the pieces I have there will never get used unless requested or I put them in an R&D knife. That being said there is always that the white belt turning black background.

Terotuf is.... interesting stuff, but it never really came close to unseating micartas and g10 material as the sought after handle material.

I've one knife handled in it and the scale material does have large pores that collect stuff and make the finished appearance less appealing to me than the above materials.

It's quite grippy, however. Especially, when damp.

This is a giveaway knife. Blank started by CDHumiston CDHumiston and this is the one I made the most changes to. The sharpie outline on my pine board shows the original and the changes I made. Padauk handle, stainless pins. A way to go yet.

And of course, the Damascus knives also got some handle prep love. Customer supplied the materials.

I haven't held one yet...... But I've heard that people who have them, love them.

I've also heard it's Safer for the makers, less toxic.

Someday I'll try it on something Big.

You almost need anti-aircraft guns for those things!
They are tough too. Gone are the days when I could just swat at them with minimal effort to terminate them. I can sometimes hit them with full speed against my skin or clothes and they just fly away. But it's super satisfying when I get one with a fast and well timed jab that bounces it off the wall and sends it stunned down onto my workbench, where it then gets to become just another smear.

I think it's pretty tough, too.

I've dropped g-10 onto concrete on occasion and each time a small "shatter" mark is left on the scale, where the glass layers and glue were broken at the point of impact. Never major, just a use mark, but terro tuff would not do that. It's more akin to micarta, in that it might take a gauging mark from an impact, rather than a fracture/breaking of layers.

Do you still use that foamy glue? I don't see any bubbling out? :D

Depends on the build. For handles with multiple pieces it's usually CA now, and for knives that have to be impervious to water it is foamy gorilla glue original. I can't seem to get my hands on the upgraded white version since moving here, but the only real difference is longer cure times from half an hour (white) to an hour (original).
