Good afternoon friends, yesterday I put in some shop time, but I am still awaiting my fine scotchbrite belts, so no finishing anything new yet. I did some prep work on some EDChef ROFRs, which involved grinding two more blades (Mark IIs) most of the way, and I also started handle prep on all three pending AEB-L EDChefs.
Then I noticed I needed to retire my respirator, so the rest of the evening was spent organizing the shop even more. By the time I left, I felt pretty good about the new layout, more efficient, and I kind of felt a bit ashamed that I did not do it earlier. I had been somewhat conflicted between my ingrained desire to "leave everything better than how you found it" and my respect of boundaries. You see there are a few items belonging to Chris' family still in the garage, which I don't consider myself at liberty to dispose of, but the way everything was laid out in there made it difficult to have the most efficient work flow, especially with more and more materials coming in, so I finally made the decision to at least reorganize the locations within the shop of a few things, which also gave me to opportunity to better protect some of their stuff from the inevitable shop dust, and I think the wood stove is in its "forever" spot now.
After that I spent some time trying my hand at stripping some saplings and logs I had set aside for walking sticks, and "clubbells". The Prevail wharncliffe seemed good for the job, but my technique wasn't great, since I haven't really done a lot of that sort of thing. Unfortunately I got to the logs and some of the sticks too late, as they had started to rot, but it'll be fine for firewood.
I was notified by email today that my Espada and Mora have arrived at the post office, so after I hit the hardware store to hopefully grab a new respirator, I'll grab them, and head back to the shop and see what else I can get accomplished, and hopefully get the EDChefs ready enough that when the fine belts arrive I can get them finished in short order.
I always feel better about crafting anything when I have a tidy shop, and the influx of materials compelled me to prioritize that. I'll take pics of it tonight. It's still extremely basic, but at least now I have it better organized to reflect my growing inventory of materials and supplies. All those awaiting a knife, thank you for your patience, while I sort through these things. I prefer to get stuff like this out o the way when I have ROFRs going, rather than orders with deposits. Currently, there is one gentleman who has a deposit down with me, for a dozen or so MagnaCut knives, and the plan is to try and get organized, and get all the ROFRs out of the way before the MagnaCut arrives, so I can put my head down and grind those out for him. And then, the rest of the MagnaCut, which is all ROFR.
