What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

And then there was a monstrosity of a knife that I made, not even knowing what it was hahaha. 3/16" 8670 with a big heavy pistol grip handle. I really don't know what I was thinking leaving it like that. I can't find a pic right now, but here it is now, at least with a usable handle. Will be a cardboard destroyer for sure, but it's an expert level user, given the lack of any safety features.

You can't see it in the pic, but there is a mysterious snail trail that got on the show side of the blade all the way from heel to tip. So these both have to come back to the shop. Again.

And now I have just ordered more 36 grit and 120 grit belts, 30 of each. Next stop, Alpha Knife Supply for 8670. Hoping to raise the funds for that over the coarse of this week. Money is still tight, but I now have more hardened blanks in stock than I ever have, a ton of handle materials, 16 more sheets of Boltaron on the way, and the love of cutlery to share with all my BFs friends. Thanks be to God and the kindness of all you my fellow cutlery lovers. I never would have believed growing up that this is what I would find myself doing with my life.

New process: I will announce a pass around when it's done.

Pass around will be "unannounced". Who'd like to volunteer to be first and put a nice paracord wrapped handle on this one?

Please start a thread in my sub entitled M2 Tryout. First person to do that is firs in line and volunteers to do a nice paracord handle for this one in addition to covering shipping to the next person. Each person signing up agrees to pay tracked shippong the next next person. So anyone else who wants in but was too slow to be first please post in the first thread that you are in.

I'll make a sheath for it, if anyone has some Kydex bending experience they might like to offer after then handle is made, please feel free to jump in on this and you'll be made second in line (or next depending on when that may happen).

I hope we can make this a fun project to share and learn from.

so does this one get off the ground? Who's gonna be first?

Maybe I'll do the handle and sheath if nobody jumps in. Probably know by Tuesday.

Hoping my fine scotchbrite belts show up mid week so I can finish a few of those Aebl knives.

I don't know how to do paracord....lol
Idk if any of us do? You might get it back wrapped in duct tape.
😂

Wow you’re pumping out knives at the moment! Do you have a bunch of elves helping you?

Mostly putting finishing touches on knives already made this week. Plus I haven't eaten since last night, so I was not bogged down with digestive processes. Time for dinner:

I was going to stay out of this passaround, but…

If no one jumps in…I could most likely do a paracord wrap to get things started.

(Also kydex if there isn’t anyone else to do that too)

An option for ya, David. 😁

I've done a couple wraps in the past, I was waiting for someone more qualified than myself before I tried jumping in. Kydex is out of my realm at the moment. I could make a really nice hobo leather sheath for it, or I've got some HDPE sheath material, but my finished products are a bit rough and tumble.

Yours look Awesome!!!

I'm glad you made the most of the steel. As soon as found it, I knew it would be perfect for you, making quickly needed knives. It's nice having that flexibility., And the heat treating is Perfect, and won't get ruined while grinding like most steels.

I saw that too that it was very difficult to get to shaving sharp, but then it stays that way forever. They are extremely Hard, yet flexible and difficult to break.

Doesn't rust too bad either.

I Laugh at all the cardboard I cut now.
I hope you keep one too.
what exactly did you send him sir?

also ETA
