What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Haha I was up late so I'm on my first cup. But I'll be on my second shortly thereafter, and my two thermoses are already filled up and nestle into my tactical Mall Ninja backpack for the ride to the shop.

I've been introduced to the Keourig (sp) machine. Convenient as heck. I'm a pourover guy. Great morning ritual but pretty time consuming.

I must fashion better soft jaws for my vise. I grabbed these in a hurry yesterday. It is the first bench vise I ever owned and I've cut into one screw channel over time. So I need a whole new vise system and bench really. A better staging area.

Wait maybe I just need to move the round table.

I had things arranged so there's was a lot of rotation certain tools into and put service in a cross crossing manner over the course of builds. I working on that now.

I read an article a while back entitled "big rocks first and I have not always been great it. I mean I played chess today before going to the shop. But I asked myself today, after starting the sheaths, are all my assests in the right places.

Because what I didn't tell you yet is in the analysis after our game tinfoil hat timmy tinfoil hat timmy the engine said you had one blinder and I had one missed win. The engine said I had three blunders and a significantly lower accuracy than you.

And with apparently more open eyes today I looked around my shop and saw it as a missed win.

I didn't think ahead enough envision how I could reorganize a better workflow, after the kind folks letting me use the garage took out most of their stuff which happened recently. I had more space and called it good enough.

And that's exactly what happened in our game. And then you won.

But I can make it much better by having a continuous flow instead of criss crossing paths, and I hadn't thought before because I had yet to move the biggest rock in the room, the wood stove.

And now that's out of the way the rest of the picture is clear and I realize it will be much more efficient. A humbling realization. But a welcome revelation.

I'd share but e-coffee has yet to be invented as far as I know, and my throwing arm isn't quite to that level... yet.
I can’t imagine at least one of those Apple propellerheads hasn’t tried it already. iSpresso.

Anyway, at least tonight they finished enough of the floor to roll the fridge back and reconnect the water, so at least I have ice again, even if I don’t have coffee. I get even more miserable if I can’t have my Mio and ice water.

Finally ready to start hand sanding the little knives. My old soft jaws were just pine held together by ever multiplying layers of painters tape. My new ones are G10 and... yeah.

And might as well show you the still very basic shop. The theory is it will be more efficient and allow a better workflow. There are still constraints of course but I believe this reduces them.

The red basket is a cherished item. It was part of a housewarming gift from D Dave_dutchman a few years ago when lived a block apart. It was filled with tools. It is up for promotion from tools in general to newborn cutlery specialist.
