MANY years ago, I fell in with a bunch that liked to do weekend or three day hikes. VERY rough and minimalist bunch. Instant coffee in ziplocs, pop a spoon full in your mouth, a little water and down it went. A little more water to thin the sludge in your belly and away you go! It was less a trek than a forced march.

That's simply a fine idea. We did chocolate covered beans on a 2 nighter. Worked fine!
