What's in a name?

My name is Tom. I wanted my user name to be “just Tom” as in “just plain Tom”, or “it’s just me, Tom”. I didn’t realize until after I created the account that the software automatically capitalized the “J”, which to me makes it seem like the name of some kind of knight errant or something - Just Tom

Oh, well…

Sorry, Tom, I've been underestimating you all this time.
I've never read your user name as anything other than you intended - "Just" as in "Merely" or "Nobody but".
But I can certainly see how the user name can be interpreted as much more noble - "Just" as in "Fair, Honest, and Upright" or "Proponent and Bringer of Justice".
I can imagine King Charles saying, "I dub thee 'Just Tom'."🤓

My name isn’t a function of me being full of myself, but something I adopted several years ago one Halloween. My last name is Hoke, and I thought it very similar to Hulk (was a Marvel junkie as a kid), so I chenged my username on Intstagram to “The Incredible Hoke” as a play on The Incredible Hulk. It stuck with my wife and friends, so I just ended up using it across several platforms.

I probably am conceited, but not THAT conceited!

Murphy Slaw is a play on Murphy's Law.

I wrote the song for a 1998 album/cd that we toured the Midwest and promoted. The project was a success and I've done other ventures with one of the musicians on that cd.

I've since gone acoustic and write songs and have a Youtube channel that's Americana music. I recently wrote a song about a "pocket knife" but didn't know if I was allowed to post something like that and would surely not want to get into any trouble in this fantastic forum.

If you look at my avatar, those are my grandson's feet in my boat on the 11 point river. There are lots and lots of other pictures of various people in and on various boats on my phone and in my memory banks. I'm also a hunter and reloaded for my .270, always using boattail bullets. So my forum name's got that going for it too, which is nice. Maybe not quite as nice as full enlightenment on my death bed - Thanks Bill Murray - but still, nice. Oh and my name is Rick.

I've been floating eleven point, jack's fork and current since I was a child. Wonderful part of the country.

My username started way back in the early 2000's. I was setting up an eB** account, and I was fairly new to the whole internet thing, let alone trying to buy things on it. At the time a lot of people were saying to not use your real name on anything web-related for fear of having your identity stolen (as if someone would want mine 🤣). So I picked probably the most common male name, followed by the town that I was born and raised in. After that first time picking a username, I just kept using it because I didn't want to confuse myself- which is easily done! So my real name is Ken, and I grew up in Fairbanks, AK.

Post your song, please!!!

I’m a huge Kelly Axe fan. Obviously a Black Raven axe is coveted amongst us Kelly fans, so I wanted to represent that line of thinking a bit without being too obnoxious. I am also an even bigger fan of The Black Crowes, and like the Black Raven mindset, I wanted to give a hat tip to the band as well without being overboard. I didn’t want to include Raven or Crowes in the name so I went with bird. I do live in Kentucky, so KentuckyBlackBird seemed to fit. Noone else was using it or anything resembling it either.

I actually did put some thought into my user name, and went with my real name. I understand why many people want to be anonymous, but I also think that anonymity does often make it easier for people to behave badly online. So, while I don't always do as well as I'd like, I decided that If I'm rude or stupid online, I should own that. Maybe it helps me be a better citizen of The Porch - the rest of you probably don't the help as much as I do.

Okay.

But if I get in trouble, you have to bail me out!
Murph, you don't need bailing out!!!😮 That's a great song, and it's got a great knife in it!!!😎 Absolutely qualifies for this thread IMO!!!
Nice going!! Nice pickin' too!!👍
You don't happen to remember what type of knife it was, do you???

Well,

one of my favourite movies growing up was (and still is) Jeremiah Johnson. Hatchet Jack is a character found dead after fighting a grizzly in that movie. He used a 50 cal hawken muzzleloader and I have the same gun.

I love history and particularly the 18th and early 19th century American colonial/french period.

I don’t collect hatchets but I do love using them.

And my name is Jack, all seemed to work together.

My display pic is an 18th century painting called “the Swiss drinker”. It’s hard to make out but he has a siamois folding knife common to French and surrounding peoples during that time. I have a modern replica made off an original as a template. Thought it was neat.
