What's in a name?

I'm proud of my hillbilly heritage. To me it is not a negative slur. Mountain people tend to stick together, put God and family first, and steadfast and loyal friends. I recently read on a wiki about my region of Virginia, that the delegates from Southwest Virginia put up a united front in the state Government, putting REGION above PARTY. I know we don't discuss political things here, only using it as an example. Hillbillies are loyal and will put aside differences for a common good. That's what that means to me. The misplaced part, well I'm in the coastal plain of North Carolina, a Hillbilly not in the hills is always gonna feel a bit outta place.;)

I'm new to the board, only a couple of months, but I love the knife. All kinds. My screen name is the name of an old favored dog that I had. Mushka.
My given name is Kelly.
I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving and the opportunity to use a favored knife on the food.

Great revival GT  And here I always thought your screen name had something to do with poker LoL. My story is very similar to yours regarding "lurking" although I'm pretty sure my lurking period was 1 year.
...
Thanks, Kevin!;)
I'm glad I pulled this up again (especially because it took me quite a while to finally find it). The posts today have been really enjoyable!:cool::thumbsup:

Oh, Pancho!

Sorry, I know my response is 7 years late but I couldn't help myself!

I guess you're proof of the adage "better late than never".

The fact that we're both here to laugh about it makes it even better.

Happy Thanksgiving, Gary. (And to all my bladeforums friends.)
:D:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Paul is my real name and S is the first letter of my last name. I was born in California and raised in the rural foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, where I hunted, fished, and backpacked as soon as I was old enough. I enlisted in the Air Force and served more than 20 years before retiring. I saw a good part of the world (and some bad parts :D) during that time. I ended up in north central Virginia as a defense contractor before retiring for good.

While I've had knives almost my entire life, I never paid that much attention to them, because to me, they were just tools. A few years ago, I was on a quest to find the perfect pocket knife. I started researching and bought a Buck 302 in rosewood. I was happy with it, but there were a couple things I didn't like. I started more research and I kept getting links to Blade Forums and especially the porch. The more I read, the more I liked it and became a member. Shortly after, I became a paid member to help support the forums. I learned so much about what was available and what was high quality from the fine folks here. Since then, I've bought knives from many manufacturers. While I still haven't found the perfect knife, this one is close for me:

Very cool thread. My screen name T.willy is derived from my given name Trevor Williston as many could probably guess. The reason I originally came up with the name however is kinda funny to think back on just now. I was a kid in the 80s and I lived in a poor part of the city Called The Rifle Range (that's another story all together lol) There were what seemed like hundreds of kids running around everyday looking for something to do to pass the time. We'll I forget the exact year it happened but sometime in the early 80s a little fad called Break Dancing came along lol. I don't know how because I wasn't very good at sports or raguler dancing whatsoever but I took to that crazy Brake Dancing like a white on rice lol and that is the original story behind my T.willy screen name.

In a previous life I was a bartender, always had a pocket knife from 8 y.o.,Cub Scouts. Never collected them until a few years ago, I'll be up to 68 traditionals when my three 85's get here tomorrow.
One for every year of my life. I'm so happy I found this forum, Happy Thanksgiving, All

I chose my screen name Night Rider not because i'm a David Hasselhoff fan but because I enjoy mountain biking at night, Every night, 365 days a year rain or snow. I started riding nights 20 years ago when my twins were born, Babies take up all your free time:(. I soon discovered that the woods come alive at night and that there was more wildlife around my area than I ever knew existed, Deer, fisher cats, coons, possums, black bears, skunks, and coywolves a canid hybrid descended from coyotes and eastern wolves. People ask me if i'm afraid of the coyotes at night and I tell them the story of my first encounter with a small pack of them and how all I had to do was bark like a dog and off they ran. works every time with most animals at night but now instead of scaring them off I track them or set up on the side of one of the game trails and let them come to me. now when people ask me if anything freaks me out at night my answer is People and that people are more dangerous than anything else and that's what the knife is for clipped to my under seat tool bag. After all what would anyone in their right mind be doing in the middle of the woods at 12:30 at night:eek:

My screen name is merely... shocker... my initials. I figure if anything insightful or entertaining needs to be said I’ll say it long form in my posts(plus I don’t have time to be creative anymore, I asked my 3 yr old and T-Rex Rooooarrr seemed long). I’m not worried about throwing my name out there on a forum... as has always been the case I’m more apt to act a fool face to face and in public than anonymously over the dadgum inter webs.
Misplaced Hillbilly Misplaced Hillbilly . I hear ya brother, I’m from the little hills of Deep East Texas. Working in the big city of Houston I get called hillbilly all the time like it’s supposed to hurt my feelings, of course I just respond...... ..... well that’s one of those times I act a fool face to face in public;). I say it with pride though!

Although I love to play golf and frequently hit into the high grass my screen name actually refers to an old saying my father used alot in my youth - " Your like a lost ball in high weeds ". As I have gotten older I find myself fitting this description more and more. Especially here lately!!!!:(o_O.......:D

My middle name is Ode and that is what I go by.... the Willard in my screen name is from Captain Willard in “apocalypse now”. I was in an 81mm mortarmen platoon in the military is where the 0341 comes from.

Had a wonderful thanksgiving out at the lake, hope you all enjoyed the laughing and bickering as well

My username/handle was chosen almost at random. I noticed most members did not use their real name. I tried a couple of names that I was not permitted to use, maybe because they were taken. So I tried to come up with something obscure. I remembered Prester John was a legendary figure from medieval times; he may be mentioned in "The Travels of Marco Polo." He was some kind of king and priest (like Melchizedek?) from the ancient east. Anyway, it was sort of a whim, but I don't feel like changing it.
Vince is my given name.

Eh ... Nothing strange, odd or abnormal.
I like to fish. When fishing, you are hunting fish, since you don't know where they are.
(Many times I've determined I know exactly where the fish are: Someplace Else.... usually many miles from my location. 🙄)

My name is Steve, although I also answer to names that are not family friendly.

I'm currently residing in Twin Falls, ID.

In one of the most mythical French movie, an English pilot whose bomber has been shot over Paris is hidden by a resistant and falls in love with that man's daughter. As his French is very basic, he is confusing beau and joli and calls his maybe-future stepfather Jolipapa instead of Beau-papa the colloquial for beau-père. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Grande_Vadrouille)
Years ago, an Irish friend living in Paris thought it would be a good thing for a common friend, unfortunately passed now, to mary my daughter (a joke, of course). Thus he called me Jolipapa, though his French was way better than the pilot's. The nickname is a bit forgotten these days, but I keep using it because it is easy for me to remember.:):D

Dwight was the last in on this ancient thread, but there are so many of us who’ve joined since. It would be fun to update and see why many of you have grabbed the moniker you have claimed for yourself.

Me…I roll with zero creativity. I had used JonMcD as a twitter handle so I unthinkingly went with that. If I would have calmed down a second, perhaps I could have gotten crafty.

Who else wants to jump in and explain themselves???
