What's in a name?

My name is Francisco. Fran-cisco. Get it? Unfortunately, I'm not a kid anymore...

Oh, Cisco!

(One of my absolute favorite shows from my childhood.)

The Cisco Kid. I remember that show on TV when I was a kid.

My nom de guerre is my first name backward followed by the short form of my profession.

One of my favorite trees is the sugar pine, largest pine in the world. The latin name is Pinus Lambertiana. When I was signing up for various forums some eleven years ago, all of the nicknames that other people had given me had already been taken, so I sat there thinking of something that no one would have taken. I use this same handle on a wide variety of forums - knives, guns, fountain pens, backpacking, etc.

Here is a picture of a friend of mine next to a mature sugar pine; tiny in comparison to the sequoias just up that road from here, but that name would be too obvious:

Well, my forum name is of finish-folk-music. It´s in 2/4 tact, and it´s like Polka but much faster. Dancing it is a very heavy work. But mostly this music is played as partymusic. One of the most popular bands is Eläkeläiset. If you´re interessted you can search for it on you tube or anything like this.

I like it, a lot of theese songs are coversongs from all over the world.

Going to such a concert is very nice. A lot people from different "movements"; there are punks, metalheads, housewifes, ravers, pensioneers and a lot of other guys. Everyone is dancing with another, having fun, some beer and so on... That´s what people should live like; a great humppa-concert and the world would be a much better place :)

Kind regards
Andi

I'm waking up this Rip Van Winkle thread that was old, but informative and entertaining, when I joined BF. I read it back then and intended to post about my user name, but apparently I never did. Maybe other members would also like to contribute their stories/explanations.

I became interested in traditional pocket knives in January 2014. I soon stumbled across Blade Forums and lurked in the traditional sub-forum for about 7 months before joining. I learned a LOT in those lurking months, but it seemed the more I learned, the more questions I had. When I finally became a BF member, my user name was a "warning" that I was joining the group with the intention of asking many questions: 5K Qs = 5000 Questions.

Any questions?? :D

When I joined Bladeforums Queen's Railsplitter pattern was my all time favorite pattern.

Abraham Lincoln is also associated with the name "Railsplitter" but the fact that I live in Springfield, Illinois where Abe once lived is only a coincidence and has nothing to do with my user name.

John is my first name
DF are the initials of my last name
Not very inventive, but I believe anonymity on the internet can sometimes make people say rude things or act in a way they normally wouldn't.
So, I put my name out there to remind myself to always act accordingly. I don't always succeed, but at least I'm always trying

In case anyone cares and doesn't want to go back to 2011 to find my response then.
Wow I don't remember seeing this thread either! When I went to register on BF I hit the wall on a number of names I would have preferred, including my first name, Gary. Peregrin is a title from an online game that I started playing with my sons many years ago. I always liked the title. It was also a characters name in JR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (Peregrin Took, aka Pippin).

Great revival GT  And here I always thought your screen name had something to do with poker LoL. My story is very similar to yours regarding "lurking" although I'm pretty sure my lurking period was 1 year.

I have always guarded against hacking and online predators so I rarely use any of my personal data for logins, emails, etc. I've always been proud of my Finnish heritage, my Mom's grand-parents all immigrated to the US from Finland. In fact, my Mom learned Finnish as she learned English so she could communicate with her grandparents LoL. My Grandma on my Dad's side is the only one whose family did not come here from Finland. So with all that said... when I signed up for BF I went with this :D

I've always been terrible at picking handles. My name is a reference to my favorite episode of the 90s/00s show Mystery Science Theater 3000. There was an episode named "Werewolf", and a running joke was the main character's inability to properly pronounce the word "werewolf".

I guess you're proof of the adage "better late than never".

The fact that we're both here to laugh about it makes it even better.

Happy Thanksgiving, Gary. (And to all my bladeforums friends.)
Thanks, Elliott! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! It's always nice to see you pop in and say hi!

That's awesome Shawn  I love MST3K, we still watch it occasionally on Sunday nights on an over-the-air channel we get called COMET TV. :)
