What's on your keys?

I'm really digging your Atwood Pry bar things.

Since this is your thread, I'll post just a couple of Atwood pics, hopefully without derailing the thread too much.

Ok, I feel better now.

spyderco ladybug black frn
maglite solitare
black paracord lanyard with skull
plus my keys obviously :)

There isn't a whole lot to my keyring. Four keys (truck, house, folk's house, in-law's house), a P-38, and those Uncle Bill tweezers. I keep a small rubber band around the P-38 to keep it from swinging open. I used to have a Classic on there as well, but my work has a no-knife policy and a metal detector (there were thefts before I hired on. Microprocessors are easy to pocket, apparently heh).

Once I dropped my keys in the grass outside my house I had no flashlight so I had to rake the grass till I found them 40+ minutes later. One of the reasons I want to get an EDC flashlight.

Walmart, something like this. Small enough for jeans, cheap enough to lose, and bright enough to see. Still time to hit up Santa...

As for my ring, I use two that attatch to one another. One set is for a couple of work keys and a P38, Utilikey and microlight, the other has car/house/range gate/mothers house etc keys. Combined, they are bigger than I like, but that's mostly because of the size of the Honda key. The car/house set gets put in the coat pocket or laptop bag when I'm at work. I rearrange things to slim down the number of keys in the summer.

I'm going for a Streamlight Stylus Pro. I love the pocket clip on them.

Key's apart, I only carry a Swiss Tech Ulili-Key on my keyring. Fitting midway between my larger and smaller keys, it's inconspicuous.

I don't like lots of gear on my keyring, that's what my belt holsters and daysack carried back-up kit bag are for. I keep an elastic band around my keys and Swiss Tool to cut out rattling.

I would carry one of these but a kid at my School got a one week suspension for having this exact thing. Our SRO called it a concealed weapon and he said he was intentionally disguising a weapon so he could transport it. Yeah our SRO takes his job way to seriously. Also this is a guy who took out his baton when some of the Seniors at my school were causing a "riot" when they all dressed up as Star Wars characters and had lightsaber fight. But I guess that's not as bad as when one of my friends had to have their parents come and explain that her sissors she got in Japan were not a "push dagger"

Here's a picture of them

Ben,

If you would like a P 51 can opener, I have a couple of them. PM me and I'd be glad to send you one.

I always have a clip on mine so I can attach it to a belt loop to decrease the chance of loosing them. I've been using the same stainless steel clip for the last 25 years+.

I also usually have a diaper pin on my key ring. I use it for digging out splinters. I like the blue duck ones the best:D. The TSA guys at the airport let it through.

The other thing I have that I haven't heard anyone mention are a couple of small rare earth magnets (0.25"dia x 0.625"thick). They just stick to the little Swiss tech Screwzall (two flat blades and two philips).

Is that a Benchmade Monocrome I spy?

It is.

What is the thing next to the silver flashlight looking thing? Not the multi-tool.

Its a pry thing sold by Peter Atwood. Can't recall what its called, but it came in different lengths. Don't think he sells them anymore, but there are probably some floating around.

Here it is. Its called a wedgie.

County Comm was selling something similar. I don't have one, so I don't know how good they are.

I understand not wanting to carry a lot, but I found that the only way for me not to lose keys is to keep them with me.

I'd advise you to get one of these:

I've got one on my keychain and its a tough bastard (compared to the Merkava Nite fobs http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=197015). Not to mention the fact that its going to glow nonstop for the next 10 or so years makes it a decent purchase. Or if you really wanted to have some fun you could get some vials (http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=194646) and make your own fob or put them in whatever you like...I've been wanting to stick a vial or two in a Izula handle for some time, but I'm still trying to figure out how to protect the vials and I'm leaning towards encasing them like iknitsteel does.

That flashlight justs makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I turn it on. There was a accident where two cars hit and one rolled off the road that I witnessed and a cop was a few cars back from me. He and I both were out of our cars and heading out into the snow to check the rolled car at about the same time and when I snapped on that light (Fresh 18650 in it :D) and it lit up the area I got a "Holy ****" out of the cop...After the people were dealt with and I was filling out my statement the cop was busy playing with the light. You tend to get that a bunch when it kicks on full power.

Keyring Light:

Cheap, handy, and a good gift. Takes like two weeks to get here from China so order 2-3 packs of them...At .47 a piece its a helluva deal and they are so handy to have.

When it comes to personal lights that I need to rely on, I avoid items like the Deal Extreme keyring lights.

I want to know that the gear that I reach for is of a high standard, which in LED's is a Photon Freedom Micro CN (on neck loop) a Fenix P3D (on belt) and a Petzl e+Lite (on belt).

A second Micro lives in my SAK belt holster, and third, plus another e+Lite live in my back-up kit in my daysack, which itself has a Black Crater Cord Lock Light.

After having too many Maglite's and others fail to function when needed, I opted for quality over cost for personal and safety gear, and have never regretted it.

I know that lots of members on different forums love the Deal Extreme lights so perhaps mine is the minority view.

I want a P51 can opener for it but I can't find a site that has just one or dosn't have insane shipping prices.

Pictures prefered.

I got two at Wal-Mart for ~$1.97. I have also seen them at most big box "sporting goods" stores and the camping specialty store fronts.

Look for "Coghlans" brand in the green boxes. ;)

I don't "Rely" on those at all, I've got a EDC that I "rely" on the thumb led light is nothing more then just a handy item for occasional use. I use it a ton but all for little things that aren't life or death scenarios.

For me that keychain light is nothing more then a "Luxury item". I've been using that light I linked to from DX for quite some time, never failed me or let me down. At the first sign of dimming they go into a drawer where they get used up for painting (I set the switch to on and then set them down on four sides of the item I'm painting and it offers some great spot lighting for the small stuff).

 Man, those are too cool!!

Get one for your keys...Seriously, get one for the girlfriend or wife (works great for finding keys at the bottom of a purse), get one to attach to the end of a knife with paracord, and get one for attaching to the dog or cats collar...I even have one attached to my "house" flashlight so I can find it if the power goes out and I don't have my EDC on me.

Merkava ones are...they are cheap and your going to want to hotglue the bottom of them and try not to toss them around to much. I've got a pair of Merkava clear ones that have seen some rather good abuse and are still going strong. They've been replaced with iknit's and attached to my mums cats collars so she can see them in the dark. I'd say grab one to attach to like you "power out" flashlight you keep at home so you can easily find it.

But let me tell you...They are just so cool and handy, I was out hiking in the middle of the night (we had to keep moving to get to a better site as we were in a baaaad low valley and it was starting to rain) and my buddies behind me were following me just by the Green Trit fob I keep paracorded to my knife handle. Then when we got to a good site to set up shop I tossed my pack down and just by a quick look I found my knife on the back...Green glowey spot? Thats the knife.

Its handy as heck, and when you drop your keys into a snowbank in the middle of the night? Its a helluva lot easier to find them. Oh and seeing as they glow for 10 years WITHOUT the need for any light source it makes for a rather cool investment.

Next thing on my list is a Trit map light: http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=204475

Again no batteries needed, no light source needed, just 10 years of glow. So flipping cool.

Yeah I have 3 peanut lighters from DealExtreme on the way to see if I like them enough to spend the $20 or so on a County Comm one. And I really like the tritium cubes but they are all sold out. Do you know if these are any good?

Note: I'm not trying to do deal spotting or whatever it's called.

Your doing the opposite of deal spotting...Those are horrible prices and they aren't good at all.

For the price get a Merkava Clear Nite glowring, your going to want to stick a dab of hotglue or something on the bottom to seal it a bit better. http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=197015

Those DX Trit are like 5mm vials, Merkavas are 23mm (so are iknitsteels) the DX ones are so flipping small and dim (due to size) its hard as hell to see at night. For 15$ its worth going with Merkava's just due to the size and brightness difference you will get...Not to mention Merkava's get to you in a week.

If you can afford it get the iknitsteel's tritium fobs, they are 10,000 times more durable then the Nite fobs Merkava sells. Merkava's Nite fobs are a good starting point but like I said if you can swing the $30 get iknitsteels fob.

The cube is sweet but expensive, I believe the "cube" sold for $110 or so. (The "cube" is for a 5mm mini vial fob)

Oh and a reference guide...The higher the yield the brighter it is (Green is the brightest of Trit colours so thats what the others are compared to)

Attached to my keyring is a separate split ring with a Victorinox Classic, Atwood "tactical" whistle, and Arc AAA-P.

Found this pic I posted in a similar thread a few years ago.
