What's on your keys?

Your doing the opposite of deal spotting...Those are horrible prices and they aren't good at all.

For the price get a Merkava Clear Nite glowring, your going to want to stick a dab of hotglue or something on the bottom to seal it a bit better. http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=197015

Those DX Trit are like 5mm vials, Merkavas are 23mm (so are iknitsteels) the DX ones are so flipping small and dim (due to size) its hard as hell to see at night. For 15$ its worth going with Merkava's just due to the size and brightness difference you will get...Not to mention Merkava's get to you in a week.

If you can afford it get the iknitsteel's tritium fobs, they are 10,000 times more durable then the Nite fobs Merkava sells. Merkava's Nite fobs are a good starting point but like I said if you can swing the $30 get iknitsteels fob.

The cube is sweet but expensive, I believe the "cube" sold for $110 or so. (The "cube" is for a 5mm mini vial fob)

Oh and a reference guide...The higher the yield the brighter it is (Green is the brightest of Trit colours so thats what the others are compared to)

Dang, I was kind of hoping they would be decent. Are there any other online places that sell good one for a decent price?

County Comm was selling something similar [i.e., a pry tool]. I don't have one, so I don't know how good they are.
http://www.countycomm.com/picopry10large.jpg

I show one in the middle pic on post #6. The one I purchased was the smallest. They work well for light prying, but the short one is so short that you can't get any leverage on it. You basically hold it between two fingers. The business it is rather sharp, too, which could conceivably be hard on one's pockets.

I prefer something just a little larger than countycomm's smallest pry thing, so you can get a real grip on it and get some real leverage.

Get one for your keys...Seriously, get one for the girlfriend or wife (works great for finding keys at the bottom of a purse), get one to attach to the end of a knife with paracord, and get one for attaching to the dog or cats collar...I even have one attached to my "house" flashlight so I can find it if the power goes out and I don't have my EDC on me.

Merkava ones are...they are cheap and your going to want to hotglue the bottom of them and try not to toss them around to much. I've got a pair of Merkava clear ones that have seen some rather good abuse and are still going strong. They've been replaced with iknit's and attached to my mums cats collars so she can see them in the dark. I'd say grab one to attach to like you "power out" flashlight you keep at home so you can easily find it.

But let me tell you...They are just so cool and handy, I was out hiking in the middle of the night (we had to keep moving to get to a better site as we were in a baaaad low valley and it was starting to rain) and my buddies behind me were following me just by the Green Trit fob I keep paracorded to my knife handle. Then when we got to a good site to set up shop I tossed my pack down and just by a quick look I found my knife on the back...Green glowey spot? Thats the knife.

Its handy as heck, and when you drop your keys into a snowbank in the middle of the night? Its a helluva lot easier to find them. Oh and seeing as they glow for 10 years WITHOUT the need for any light source it makes for a rather cool investment.

Next thing on my list is a Trit map light: http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=204475

Again no batteries needed, no light source needed, just 10 years of glow. So flipping cool.

I'm planning on getting one, and thanks for the intensity info below. They are super handy indeed. I already have a couple of trit fobs by u812 on two firesteels that live on two of my favorite FB sheaths, but these would be perfect for my keys and look like they'd be better than the other fobs even since the tubes are completely exposed. Here are two I have already:

Attaching one to the bedside flashlight is a great idea as well

Dang! Beat me to it! I've been meaning to start a thread like this for sometime. :)

About 15' paracord "chain" attached to a carbiner with the key ring containing -

Keys
Inova Microlight
Metal cylindrical whistle
P51-style can opener
Small nail clippers (No metrosexual here! Ready hygienic tool and really useful as tweezers too)

I no longer attach my SAK Explorer since I wanna lessen the bulk and weight (regular EDC is an M-Type and a Swick).

CPF is the place to go. Other personal WTS will be the area > http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/forumdisplay.php?f=108

Merkava is the cheapest your going to find, I can vouch for the guy as I've bought from him before (as have a ton of people on CPF) and have nothing but good things to say about him.

iknitsteel is a bit of a newcomer, he produces his fobs at a slower pace and a higher price but it shows in quality and durablility. Don't hesitate to buy from him if he has something available hes a standup guy as well.

B@RT is well...He's B@RT hes the Tritium god. The man has more Tritium laying around then I could dream of ever. If you want to make your own fobs or have a project that requires "raw" tritium (vials) he is the man to goto.

Thank B@RT for that chart, its his out of his Trit thread (http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=194646)

Those skull beads look nice with the vials in them but they are a bit to "exposed" for me, I'd be concerned about them taking a hit and cracking or falling out. I haven't seen or delt with u182 so I'm not to familiar with his work.

Like I've said, Merkava if your on a budget (and a dab of glue on the bottom of the fob) or iknitsteel for quality (if he has anything in stock). If you take care of it (and don't throw them onto tarmac all the time or hit it with a hammer Merkava's clear Nite fobs are good to go. If your a bit rough then iknitsteel's are good to go.

Just for reference to anyone who isn't familiar...I wouldn't go any lower then 60% yield. Ice Blue is about as "dim" as I prefer as anything below that doesn't really put out enough light to be easily located in pitch black (at least in my opinion).

Oh and don't stop on putting one on your flashlight next to your bed...Put one on your knife by the bed, and one on the .45 next to your bed...I actually keep five (green 23mm) "raw" vials inside my small gun safe and it gives me enough light to see the outline of things in there...Works great in the middle of the night when I pop it open and need to find something quick.

I know, that's the other thing about them. They are glued up in there, but the ends of the tube are a little exposed towards the outside of the eye sockets. That's why I like the simple one iknitsteel makes, it looks strong and the entire tube is exposed so you get the max use of the light.

I would put one on everything if I could (pack zipper pulls, flashlights, keys, though I don't really like fobs on my knives), but right now, money is the limiting factor. I guess, like you said, I could always get one iknitsteel for my keys, and Merkava's for the other things that get less mileage or constant handling...:)

HAHAHA! :p

I used to carry my keys on a carabiner but all they would do is jingle around so I just took them off and dropped in my pocket.

Well my keys and fob are on a piece of 550 cord. The carabiner that holds my little gadgets is attached to the 550 cord. The whole package doesn't jingle much because of the 550 cord. But the little tools do clack around a little.

a tritium vial

Where might a fella find one of those. That's a good idea for finding keys in the dark.

EDIT: Nevermind, like an idiot I posted before reading further down the thread. I see the ones for sell on CPF. Man those white ones are cool. They might be a little less bright than the green but white light sure is helpful. And since they're sooooo much brighter than others, the white ones will still probably be great.

CPF is where you're gonna find the best custom stuff. Those guys are serious about lights and any tritium or GITD stuff sold over there is gonna be far better than anything you can pick up at Amazon or anything like that.

I see one of the guys has a couple for sale do I NEED to be a CPF member to order one of them?

This is my set-up, but I recently swapped out the E01 for the ITP EOS AAA.

No, just get their PP info and send them an order or something. I contacted iknitsteels today to see if he can work me some green ones up. The makerva look ok though.

Man, you guys certainly have all the hook ups when it comes to cool gear.
I had no idea this stuff existed. Learned a bit about tritium too :)
