What's on your keys?

OK, I didn't read every post however seems like I spend a lot of time cleansing my various vehicle key rings every time I need to pass a security checkpoint..today it was a 2" Pico Wedgy pry bar at the County Court house.

Now in my dotage I am becoming somewhat more aware of such things however have left knives and other sharp and/or pointy things but never a firearm with an accommodating clerk or cashier in nearby business or non security controlled government office. Never refused, most just laugh and all have been willing to grant such a small request..hey, a smiling old guy in FL, while certainly not rare, does seem to get better mileage than a grouch,IMHO.

Maybe carry your keys on one ring, and your toys on another. Then leave your toys in the car when you know you are going through a metal detector.

Some might find it impractical having a million and 1 different items in their pocket? I personally keep it simple, key chain (bare bone keys i need, and a tool), wallet, knife and if I'm going to work a belt multitool like a LM wave.

The only difference between having all of your keys and tools on one ring vs. having keys on one ring and tools on another is the addition of one ring. So in terms of bulk, there is really no difference. Its just a matter of how that bulk is distributed.

I'm not saying it is right for everyone, but I can't stand a big wad of janitor's keys in my pocket. I like being able to pull out just my keys, leaving the other ring in my pocket. Plus, you don't have a big wad of keys and tools dangling and jangling on your steering column. JMO.

It helps also to minimize what one carries, as well as minimizing the size of the tools.

The Swiss Tech is definately a fine small tool combo, and very affordable.

My Wife wanted to carry a small multi tool (with scissors) on her key ring so I found a small Leatherman that fit the bill and made a Kydex Sheath with Glow Tab thinging for her (my Daughter later added the Purple Lanyard). Just tug the strap and the tool pops out.

Well since I don't have that much stuff on my keys I can add some stuff and it won't bother me and I like the paracord thing. Looks top notch

well with the amount of stuff people on here carry on their key chain i'd be hitching my pants up every two seconds! thats why i like swisstech, small lightweight items that dont get in the way...I just need to remember to take them off before going into a secured area.

At last check my keys were like 1.2 oz total.

I carry my keys on an S biner. I 4 rings attached, I keep my truck key and a SOG micron one; my remote, the key to my gym locker and one of those 4 way craftsman screwdrivers on the other one, work keys only (I remove this group on weekends and on vacations) on the third one, and the final ring is my mini tool ring, I keep a 3' stanley tape measure, swiss tech pliers, and a streamlight nano. Since I have been slowly building this set up over time I barely notice the weight, and because I use this modular set up I can add and remove rings as needed. For instance, I remove the ring with my truck key so there isn't any additional weight on the ignition, and having the remote on a seperate ring allows me to start my truck on cold mornings. I have been using this system for as long as I can remember and it works out well.

Right now...

Keys
Small Nite-Ize S-Biner
Gerber Tempo
SAK Tinker
Pocket Sharpener

I will be changing the set-up and adding
Folding Saw
Tweezers
Pill Fob
Straight Razor
Widgy Bar
Pico Pen
Pocket ScrewDrivers

Speaking of Airport stuff. Would a P51 be allowed on? I also saw a guy with one of those LED keys that they sell at Home Depot for like $4 on his keys the blade wasn't cut he just said it works well as a little light.

I've heard a couple stories of people getting their P-38s and P-51s confiscated after 9/11, but haven't kept up with it. For the price though, it wouldn't hurt to buy ten of them and have one around wherever.

Yeah. It would make sence that they would so I'd just either have to put my keys in my luggage or just thin them out.

I like having stuff on my keys. I have found tons of uses for my P-51 opener. I can peel oranges with it, I don't have any fingernails. And I have used it to remove staples a couple of times.

I agree with powernoodle, I have a small d-ring that connects/diconnects my ring with 4 keys on it to the toys. The glock 30 stays undercover. I try to avoid anywhere with security checkpoints like courtrooms and such, there never very fun. The last time I was in a courtroom it was in covington, la. to watch a serial killer/rapist being given a life sentence with hard labor and no chance of parole or time off for bad behavior after 6 known victoms. If any of us would have had our toys with us the two balifs would have had a hard time. Though they probally wouldn't have tried very hard to stop anything.

My main keychain has
A Fenix E01
swiss-tech microplus
Counycomm sspenut lighter
a ResQme
and three keys

My car chain just has a car key, remote, and ResQme.
